This time we’d like to show you the 5 main principles of drawing a cat paw and you’ll be doing it like a pro in 10 minutes. How does that sound? Every cat paw is just as unique as a human fingerprint. They are also often compared to roses: inside the cute fluff, sharp claws are hidden. It is the fluff that will help us draw them is a few simple steps. Let’s start with understanding the simple anatomy. A typical cat has five fingers, but not all of them are used for walking, just 4 are. The fifth finger is positioned like a human thumb and normally doesn’t touch the ground. Each finger has a claw which is hidden inside until the cat decides to attack, play or climb. It’s time to sketch paws! Let’s imagine that the paws are a piece of wire. Your task is to position this “wire” so that it would normally support the cat’s body. When we are done with the “wire”, let’s draw the basic shapes of the 4 paws. As soon as the basic shapes are done, we can work on details. Try to remember how the toes and fingers are positioned and add them to the shapes. Remember we told you in the very beginning that the fluff would help us a lot, as it covers many details? Paw prints are a type of footprint left behind by animals. Generally, only mammals are described as having paws.
The paw consists of the claws or toenails, the digital pads or fingertips, the large metacarpal pad, and the dewclaw and carpal pad located higher up the leg.
Paw prints can be used to track an animal, especially when it walks through soft mud or snow.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing Cat Paw Prints
1. Begin by using a curved line to enclose an irregular shape. The shape should resemble a crescent moon with rounded tips, or a round cookie with a bite taken out of it. This represents the print of the large metacarpal pad.
2. Draw four small ovals above the curved shape, indicating the toe or digital prints. This completes the first paw print.
3. Use a curved line to draw another irregular crescent shape.
4. Draw four small ovals above the crescent shape, completing the second paw print.
5. Use a curved line to enclose a third irregular crescent shape.
6. Draw small ovals above the crescent shape to indicate the toes.
7. Continue drawing small ovals to complete the third paw print.
8. Use a curved line to draw a fourth irregular curved shape.
9. Draw four small ovals atop the irregular shape, completing the paw print.
