2022 range rover velar r-dynamic d300 price

Land Rover has made some running updates to the Velar lineup in Australia with occupant comfort and customisation high on the list.

The 2022 Ranger Rover Velar will land in Australia shortly with new air purification features and increased levels of customisation.

Land Rover has also dropped the base model, bringing a sportier feel to the whole Velar range in line with competitors. Speaking of, the Velar sits in a niche between mid-size luxury SUVs like the Audi Q5 and large SUVs such as the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class in both size and price terms.

How has the Range Rover Velar changed?

This 2022 update isn’t a facelift, so the Velar has retained its attractive proportions. Land Rover has enhanced customisation though, with an additional 12 paint options from the SV colour range. Pictured is Tourmaline Bronze, one of the new hues.

The 2023 Range Rover Velar range has expanded with a special 'Edition D300' variant and a plug-in hybrid – but prices are up across the board.

Announced in January, the Velar P400e plug-in hybrid is one of four new Land Rover PHEVs due in Australia this year, and is available solely in R-Dynamic HSE trim, from $138,800 plus on-road costs – $2100 more than a six-cylinder petrol R-Dynamic HSE P400.

Meanwhile, the existing R-Dynamic SE D200 diesel variant has been axed, and a new $122,900 plus on-road costs Edition D300 model added – which gains a range of styling and tech upgrade based on the R-Dynamic SE variant it’s based on.

Prices across the other variants carried over from the Model Year (MY) 2022 range – R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE P250 and P400, and R-Dynamic HSE P400 – are up by between $2217 and $4038.

Newly standard across the range to counteract the price rise is a power tailgate, and a perforated full leather steering wheel.

However, some features have been removed; the R-Dynamic SE no longer gains a full 12-inch digital instrument cluster (retaining a 7.0-inch screen from the S), the HSE no longer lists front passenger seat memory, and items like four-zone climate control can no longer be optioned.

A full breakdown of the features offered by each model grade – and how much they cost – is included at the bottom of this story.

Powering the new P400e plug-in hybrid is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a 19.2kWh battery and 105kW electric motor, which send drive through an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive to produce 297kW and 640Nm combined.

The 0-100km/h sprint sits at 5.4 seconds, while claimed fuel consumption (according to Australian testing) in mixed driving sits at 2.7 litres per 100 kilometres, and all-electric WLTP driving range at 53km.

DC fast charging at up to 50kW allows for an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes. Hybrid (combining petrol and electric), Save (petrol only) and Electric (EV only) drive modes are on offer.

Unique features for the PHEV over the P400 version of the R-Dynamic HSE include a 12-inch digital instrument cluster – which was previously standard on the petrol HSE for MY22, but is now an option for MY23 – and a pair of charging cables.

Meanwhile, the new Edition D300 debuts Land Rover’s 3.0-litre 'D300' turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel engine for the Velar in Australia, developing 221kW (or 300 horsepower, thus the name) and 650Nm, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

With an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive system – as also fitted to last year’s 150kW/430Nm four-cylinder D200 diesel – the Edition D300 quotes fuel use of 7.5L/100km in combined driving, and a 6.5-second 0-100km/h time.

Over the R-Dynamic SE, it adds unique 20-inch wheels, a black roof, black exterior styling pack, sliding panoramic sunroof, privacy glass, front fog lights, hands-free functionality for the tailgate, and Cabin Air Purification Plus.

P250 petrol variants are powered by a 184kW/365Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, while the P400 petrol gets a 294kW/550Nm 3.0-litre turbo inline-six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and electric supercharger.

Claimed fuel economy is 7.8L/100km for the P250 and 8.7L/100km for the P400, while 0-100km/h times are 7.5 and 5.5 seconds respectively.
