Perhaps you have your eye on a motorcycle but have not taken any steps to get a valid motorcycle license yet. Before hopping on a new bike or attempting to register one, it is crucial that you read up on the laws and regulations in your state and check all of the requirements to drive on the road legally.
In the majority of states, operating a motorcycle without the proper license can land you with fines and even the possibility of jail time. Clearly, it is worth the time to check your local laws and take the necessary steps before taking your bike out for a spin.

HOW TO OBTAIN THE MOTORCYCLE LICENSE
From the moment you are 24 years old, you can directly apply for the full motorcycle license. You do need to be in possession of a driving license B, or a motorcycle theory certificate.
The motorcycle licence comprises two parts: first the AVB (vehicle control) and then AVD (traffic participation).
If you are 18 years old, you can take the exam for a motorcycle with a cylinder capacity up to 125 cc and 11 kW. This is the A1 category. You can even start taking motorcycle driving lessons from your 17th birthday. These lessons are the same as those for 24-year olds. Two years after getting the A1 motorcycle driving licence and once you’re at least 20 years old, you can take the A2 motorcycle driving licence. This is the category up to 35 kW. When you’re 22 years old, you can take the exam for the heaviest motorcycle category A (unlimited capacity / at least 50 kW).

A1 (125CC 11KW)
If you are 18 years old, you can get the driving license for the light motorcycle (A1). From the age of 17 you can already take the theory exam. You can also take driving lessons at the age of seventeen if you have passed your motorcycle theory exam or have your driving licence. From the age of 18 you can take the practical exams vehicle control (AVB) and traffic participation (AVD) for the A1 driving licence.
A2 (tot 35KW)
When you are 20 years old, you can get your driving license for the medium-duty motorcycle (A2). If you have been in possession of an A1 driving licence for 2 years, you only have to take the AVD exam and you can start at the age of 19.
TRAPED SYSTEM
If you have been in possession of the A1 driving license for at least 2 years, you may switch to the medium-duty motorcycle (A2). All you have to do is take a practical road participation exam (AVD).
When you have been in possession of the A2 driving licence for at least 2 years, you can switch to the heavy engine (A). For that too, you only need to take a practical road participation exam (AVD).
If you obtain your driving licence for the heavy
category (A) via the graduated system, you will not receive a code 80 on your driving licence.
A (full power)
When you are 21, you can get the driving license for the heavy motorcycle (A) and you will receive code 80 * on your driving license.
* code 80 If you obtain the driving license for the heavy category (A) directly at the age of 21, you will receive code 80 on the driving licence. This means that you take an exam in the tough category (A), but you can only drive an A2 motorcycle for a period of time when you obtain your driving licence.
Code 80 expires two years after obtaining your A driving licence or if you turn 24 before that time. If you have already had the A2 driving licence for 2 years to obtain your A driving licence, you will take a Graduated exam in which you only have to take the AVD exam again.
For all categories applies: theory necessary for the AVD exam you do not miss a lower category motorcycle licence.
