I am an Indian citizen, working inUnited States on H1B visa. I am planning on a 5 day vacation in Los Cabos. From the mexico consular website, it appears that I need to apply for a visitor visa. But some of my friends claim that we don't need one and we can go ahead with a valid H1B visa. Can someone confirm?

The consular website does NOT say that! It says "Holders of valid visa of theUnited States of America (any nationality) shall not require visa to enter Mexico with tourist, transit and business purposes only."
On our Australian Travel Smart Website, it advises that you may need a Travel visa, and if travelling thruUSA to Mexico you may need one as well.
Does any one have any ifo on this, dont want any trouble in USA customs or Mexico! ha
Thanks.

Assuming you are an Australian passport holder.....
If you are visitingMexico as a tourist for less than 180 days you do not need any sort of visa but you do need an immigration form called an FMM. If you are arriving by air then you will be given the form on the plane and the cost of the form is included in the price of your ticket. If arriving by land you must purchase an FMM (around 22 USD I think) as soon as you cross the border.
Visiting the U.S. you qualify for the Visa Waiver Program provided you will not be in "North America" for more than 90 days. So if you are in the U.S. for 60 days and want to go to Mexico for 60 days you can't because Mexico is in North America and you will have trouble at U.S. immigration. (If that is what you want to do then you need a tourist visa for the U.S..) As long as your total stay in the U.S. & Mexico is less than 90 days then you are fine. If you are using the Visa Waiver Program remember to apply for ESTA online clearance prior to your journey.

Hi SteveMex
Thanks, we are actually New Zealand passport holders but that should be the same as Australians. We will be inUSA for 2 weeks then Cabo for 1 week, so that all seems fine.
So I still will have to apply for the Visa Waiver Program online you say, so will look into that Today.
Thanks.

Hi Debra K
If you have any questions aboutCabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo, please post on the specific forum. This Los Cabos one mostly collects forum threads and has few readers. (We're lucky SteveMex saw it because he knows a lot!)

As New Zealand passport holders you do not need a visa for your particular trip since you qualify for the Visa Waiver Program. Previously this meant you just had to fill in a green form on theplane and hand it to U.S. immigration. But now they make you apply online at this site //esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU TRAVEL! Application is simple but you need a credit card as you have to pay 14 USD. Usually you get approval within a few seconds. Approval is good for 2 years. Print off your approval (which contains a unique number/code) as you will need that number on check-in. If you fail to do this prior to checking in the airline won't let you fly.

Thanks, SteveMex yes, looked into what you had said and saw we need to fill out the online clearance and fee, so "Thanks" for that. Looking forward to relaxing inCabo!
