How can I change my Syndicate Bank IFSC to Canara Bank?

IFSC codes and cheque books of erstwhile Syndicate Bank has become invalid from today. Canara Bank had asked the customers of Syndicate Bank to update their bank branch's IFSC code by June 30. "Dear customer, replace e-syndicate cheque book and cheques issued to the third party as validity for presentation expires on 30.06.2021," Canara Bank had said.

How to get new IFSC codes

The new IFSC codes will now begin with CNRB instead of SYNB and 10000 will need to be added to the existing IFSC code number.

  • They can get the new codes by visiting the bank branch.
  • The customers can also contact Canara Bank through the customer care number 18004250018.

"All the IFSC starting with SYNB will be disabled W.E.F 01.07.2021," the bank said.

Why is IFSC code important

The new IFSC codes will be required by the customers for NEFT/RTGS/IMPS transactions.

"We request you to inform the remitters (senders) to use only your new IFSC code starting with "CNRB" while sending NEFT/RTGS/IMPS, from now itself," the lender added.

The bank also announced the discontinuation of the current swift code that is being used by the erstwhile Syndicate Bank customers for foreign exchange transactions.

New Delhi: If you are a customer of Syndicate Bank, then there is important news for you, as the IFSC codes of all the branches are all set to change. Syndicate Bank was merged with Canara Bank with effect from 1st April 2020, according to Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) orders. However, to provide a buffer time to customers, the bank’s IFSC code remained the same for over a year. But that’s going to change, as Syndicate Bank’s older IFSC Code will work only till 30 June 2021. 

The new IFSC codes of the bank will be applicable from July 1, 2021. Customers should note that they have to get the details of the new IFSC and MICR codes to facilitate banking transactions without running into any troubles. 

Since Syndicate Bank’s customers are now Canara Bank’s customers, the latter has also issued an advisory about the former’s IFSC code updation. From July 1 onwards, Syndicate Bank customers won’t be able to use the IFSC codes starting with SYNB.  

The bank has said that customers should inform all money senders that now while using NEFT / RTGS / IMPS, they should use only the new IFSC starting with CNRB, which belong to Canara Bank.   

Canara Bank has also said to add 10000 to the erstwhile IFSC of Syndicate Bank. For example, if the old IFSC was SYNB0003687, now the new IFSC will be CNRB0013687 in its place.

We request you to inform the remitters (senders) to use only your new IFSC code starting with “CNRB” while sending NEFT/RTGS/IMPS, from now itself.”

Here’s all you need to know about how to change your IFSC Code and SWIFT CODE:

The new IFSC code will now start with CNRB instead of SYNB. One also needs to add 10000 to their existing IFSC code number. For example, if the previous IFSC code was SYNB 0003687, now the changed IFSC code would be CNRB 0013687.

For all foreign exchange, the SWIFT Code of erstwhile Syndicate Bank (SYNBINBBXXX) which is used for sending or receiving SWIFT messages for Foreign Exchange transactions shall be discontinued w.e.f. from July 1, 2021. All customers have been advised to use the SWIFT code (CNRBINBBBFD) for any of their Foreign Exchange needs.

Meanwhile, it is important to note the present eSyndicate Bank Cheque book with old MICR and IFSC is also valid up to June 30, 2021.  All old cheques issued to any third party need to be replaced with a new cheque before June 30, 2021.
