How did Bella fall in love with Edward so fast

So I’ve been a long time twilight fan but I never got around to reading the series because I thought I’d be judged by my friends for reading it.

Anyways I’m reading twilight and my partner and I discussed how fast Bella fell in love with Edward and my partner said something along the lines of “well the thing about vampires is that humans are naturally drawn to them so how much is Bella’s love for Edward natural” it just gave me an oh my gosh moment.

Twilight discussion

Can somebody explain why Edward is so in love with Bella in the books!

I guess don't see why Edward is so in love with Bella. I mean what is so amazing about her?

OMG, I was thinking this all the way through the series! I mean, I enjoyed the books, but I was like, "Come on! Here's this girl with nothing special who walks into town and everyone is fascinated with her!" She's an ordinary-looking, depressed klutz. What's so great about that!?

I get it in the books: She is as full of potential as she is with the scent of her blood that he loves so much. She is down to earth and radiates goodness and simplicity, even while her life is less than ideal. Bella can't see the potential in herself, yet Edward can ... yet he spends the whole series unwittingly preventing her from reaching that potential. When she turned, she reached her potential for beauty and confidence. Now, why he loves her in the film is another story! That I don't get. I don't buy the chemistry in the films at all ... don't see it.

He fell in love with her because she was different than the rest of the girls. She was a mystery to him, he couldn't hear her thoughts like he could every one else. She was also unique in the way she thought and acted. She wasn't simple, her thougths didn't follow the norm of a school girl. I guess, because she felt like she didn't fit in and the Cullens never fit in either. That's my interpretation anyway. :)

That makes sense. I think the films do color my memories of the books. I always thought the way Kristin Stewart played her was a little weird.

Karen wrote: "He fell in love with her because she was different than the rest of the girls. She was a mystery to him, he couldn't hear her thoughts like he could every one else. She was also unique in the way..."
That makes sense, thanks.

I felt the same way about Kristin Stewart. I think they could have cast Bella better. I like the actress for other parts, just not Bella. I'm glad I read the books before seeing the movies.

Edward is in love with Bella simply because she's fearless. The question that we should ask is why is Bella in love with Edward? That's what fascinates him. He's a cold, blood drinking vampire, and yet ...Plus, this a love story...who wants to make sense of it??:) Let's enjoy the fantasy!!

I don't get it, honestly.
I understand the initial attraction: Bella smells good, Edward can't read her thoughts, she's obviously attractive, and she's new. But from then on I don't understand it. In the books, both Twilight and Midnight Sun, Edward keeps talking about how Bella thinks differently from everyone else her age. But I really don't see it. I think that Bella is so ordinary and generic that she's boring. I never understood what made Bella interesting. She has no real hobbies, no interests in her life besides Edward, and for all that talk of how mature Bella was for her age in Book 1, she sure didn't act like it for the next couple of books. Nothing characterizes her except her clumsiness. She was into classics in the first book, but that interest kind of disappeared.
I understand Bella's attraction to Edward - he's smart, different, hot - but I don't understand his. :)
(no offense to any Twilight lovers out there!)

id like think its because Edward is a controling person and Bella is easly controled . . .the real reason if there is one, who knows? I dont, but i think its because Edward is simply a dominate man. he needs to be in control and Bellas definitly under his control.

I honestly think it's because he can't read her thoughts, so he is constantly thinking about what she's thinking.
He is so used to knowing every persons thoughts that this is new and challenging for him. It's an obsession in my opinion. Even in the last book once she finally learns to control her "mind shield" he asks her to remove it so that he can see what she's thinking for once. I might be wrong but I think that's what it is.

NO.

:)

he is intrigued with her because he can not read her mind. thus in order to know her he has to be with her.

if Edward was able to read Bella's mind from the start, this series would never had been conceived, nothing in Bella to be attracted to that's for sure, and they don't have anything in common, and she's so clingy and dependent on him that i would have been disgusted even without reading her mind.
imagine edward being able to read her mind, with all the discriptions she said about him in one look, he would have shunned her for sure

profusely agree. that's why i'm against people taking it as the ultimate love story. it's not a good example

because he is. there is no explanation for love.

Nya wrote: "because he is. there is no explanation for love."

But why her, shes so plain.

it's love! not everyone wants a loud, flamboyant person

I'm quite plain and ordinary (other than a book obssession). I don't question why my husband loves me - he just does. We compliment each other well, communicate well together, and have fun. Sometimes love just happens and doesn't have to make sense. Like Edward loving Bella. He just does.

The initial attraction was the blood and her silent mind.

She's pretty even though she thinks of herself as plain. She's caring, responsible, and thoughtful.
Those might be some of the reasons, but it goes beyond that, I'm sure.

Nya wrote: "because he is. there is no explanation for love."
I agree. :)

Maddie wrote: "I guest don't see why Edward is so in love with Bella. I mean what is so amazing about her?"
That's the thing. Nothing at all, apparently though he can't read her mind and her blood is yummy to him. Personally, I think it's a fasination he mistook for love. I'm not saying ordinary is a bad thing though. It just makes a boring book.

Aww, that's sweet. :)

Nya wrote: "it's love! not everyone wants a loud, flamboyant person"

But he says hes waited for Bella like forever, and theres a lot of more facinating people, he could have had. I just don't see why Bella. I mean, I know her blood smells, like, awesome, and everything, but it's just really annoying to me.

I found it unfortunate that Edward fell in love with her because she was different, but in actuality she was exactly the same as all of the other girls Edward couldn't stand.

Well, not everyone has the same definition of fascinating. Typically people think loud, adventurous and outgoing is more interesting, but not everyone does. I tend to like quiet, dorky guys myself.

It wasn't just Edward that was obsessed with her. It was everyone in Forks. She didn't stand out in any particular way. Her friend was just as pretty.

I don't think it's love. Vampires don't love, they lust.

Like other people have said--love is strange and we don't get it. But seriously....

After awhile Tyler, Eric (and I'm guessing most of forks) seem to lose interest, so it wasn't really all of them.

That's debatable; I suppose it depends on your definition of love. I can't really call it just lust because vampires seem to bond on more than just a physical level. What is love but surging brain chemicals? Is there a love beyond the biological aspect of it? I'd like to think so.

Lust?

wow u changed my point of view... yes ur correct..

the books protray bella more better and positve dn d movie.. yes kristen stewart dsnt fit the role... at all!!!! she s clumsy , her eyes n lips flicker all d time 4 no reason... she has no emotions on her face.. the falling in love part shud hv been more dramatic, more influential on d movie.. bt its been neglected... they jst met n fall in love... dts weird!!! :O

It's love at first sight, or smell as the case may be.. Whats to understand.. Its beautiful :)
And the fact he can't read her, but you have to remember, once a vamp falls in love or finds his mate, its not human but a 100 times more intense! Thats why I prefer fantasy love stories, because there so unrealistic I love em!

The same question could be applied to anyone, What is so amazing about you?
We must remember that the books are from Bella's point of view, she thinks she is nothing special and he's everything amazing. That's the way she sees herself, evidently everyone else perceives something else. Isn't that often the way how you see yourself is not how others see you.
And as the books are from her point of view most of the text is her internal monologue and I think if we are all honest most of our internal monologues are quite whiny...

Excellent points.

Forgive me
I think fearless is the wrong word, she's brave, to the contrary she is full of fears, hardly fear-less, but that doesn't stop her taking what action she can, so she's brave.

Shanna wrote: "Janny wrote: "Edward is in love with Bella simply because she's fearless. The question that we should ask is why is Bella in love with Edward? That's what fascinates him. He's a cold, blood drinkin..."

good point, brave not fearless

Shanna wrote: "Janny wrote: "Edward is in love with Bella simply because she's fearless. The question that we should ask is why is Bella in love with Edward? That's what fascinates him. He's a cold, blood drinkin..."

coz he's attractive..

No, well yes he's attractive, but I was talking about why Edward is so in love with Bella. Not the other way around.

Bella thinks she's ordinary and plain. From the reactions of all the guys in the books, I think it's safe to say that Bella is physically attractive.
I'm going to have to defend Kristen Stewart here--I think she does a great job with what she's given. IMO it was Edward who was mis-cast. I do agree there's a lack of chemistry there. On-screen, I thought there was a lot more chemistry between KS and TL.

Yeah, I thought Kristen Stewart did a great job too!

Because Bella's mind is closed to him, Edward doesn't have the opportunity to see that her thoughts are just as silly/stupid/inane/adolescent/etc. as any other high school girl, varying only in the specifics. As a result, he was able to project every positive attribute suggested by her behavior onto her and build her up into the woman he has always wanted--in his mind at least. It wasn't far into the series that I wanted Edward to have Bella solely because he wanted her, not that she deserved him. His attraction to her is textbook in that love begins with physical attraction--her blood--and expands to the inner person--Bella's is hidden from him. After reading Midnight Sun it was more clear that once Edward fell in love--or whatever the condition actually is--he was frozen into that state because vampires don't change. He was trapped for all time and Bella kept trying to throw her life away.

While many see Edward as controlling, the truth is that he is protective, sometimes overly protective. He was never able to control Bella or even get her to follow his advice born of a hundred more years experience and knowledge of the world than she had. She ran to sacrifice herself to James, ran into the vampire den of death to go after him, constantly escaped her protection to see Jake when it was known a hoard of newborns and a vengeful Victoria were after her, etc. Edward had no control and very little influence on Bella's behavior. It isn't controlling to try to protect a pathological martyr from herself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that he didn't do a very good job of controlling her! She was quite stubborn and, to me, it just seemed that he wanted to protect her from herself and her bad decisions...although it was a little creepy that he snuck into her room at night.

Read Midnight Sun. Explains everything.

I thought Midnight Sun was Twilight, just 1st title?

Caron wrote: "I thought Midnight Sun was Twilight, just 1st title?"

No Midnight Sun is in the Twilight Saga, it's the 1.5. Like it's between Twilight and New Moon. It's twilight from Edward prospective.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to check it out. Is it worth it?

I've never heard of that one before! An inbetween book??! WOW!

Midnight Sun is AMAZING. Just re-read it. If you like Twilight, you'll LOVE Midnight Sun. Explains a lot about Edward. You can read it online at stepheniemeyer.com

I just googled it and theres a page that explains how the manuscript was illegally distributed so she did not want to continue. I just downloaded the first chapter of the book of off the website. Did she ever finish it or is this all there is of Midnight Sun??

There are 250 or so pages, about half the book. That's all she's written for now - she plans tentatively to finish it in the future. She was very hurt when it was leaked, a trusted friend of hers was the culprit.

I hope she isn't put off forever and does finish it, I absolutely love her work.

Why did Bella and Edward fall in love so fast?

He fell in love with her because she was different than the rest of the girls. She was a mystery to him, he couldn't hear her thoughts like he could every one else. She was also unique in the way she thought and acted. She wasn't simple, her thougths didn't follow the norm of a school girl.

Did Edward truly love Bella?

When they prevent the Volturi from killing Edward, he begs her forgiveness, tells her that he loves her, had always loved her and always will, and promises to never leave her again. Bella forgives him entirely and becomes completely normal again, as if Edward had never left Forks.

Why was Bella so obsessed with Edward?

Bella loved both men in different ways. Her love for Edward was based off physical attraction, an unhealthy obsession, and a desire to be young and beautiful forever. She was always worried he was going to leave her and she never felt good enough for him. He controlled her life and made the decisions for them.

Why did Bella and Edward get married so fast?

While Bella doesn't have particularly strong feelings about waiting until marriage, Edward is more old-fashioned in this way. Given that he's decades-old and was born in a very different time period, this makes some sense. He wants to wait until marriage, so their wedding night is the first time for both of them.
