Can i beat them in a weekend?
Definitely not, even if you played 24 hours a day, it will be a close call. Though it depends a bit on how you play.
Trails games are able about reading dialogues. You will want to talk with every NPC two or three times until they start repeating yourself. After watching just one main story dialogue, all the NPC dialogues have changed again, so you will want to talk to all NPC two or three times AGAIN. There are things you permanently miss by not doing that, but it also increases the immersion a lot. Every NPC in the Trails series has his own life and his own little story you can follow. If you play the game like that you can easily invest 60-100 hours in each game. I usually ended up at 90-110 hours play time per Trails game, but I'm a completionist and waste a lot of time in menus.
If you ignore all the NPCs, you can beat it in half the time, but then it turns a highly immerssive game with incredible lore and some of the best writing you've seen in JRPGs into just an average JRPG, so I don't really recommend playing it that way.

vivi21 9 years ago#1 Without doing any sidequests or anything extra? It just isn't a Bethesda game if it doesn't corrupt my savefile. |
VeghEsther 9 years ago#2 That depends I did a 100% BP (subquest run) held down the X or O button to manually skip all that long text just to get to the battles and yet I beat the entire game around 20 to 25 hours. |
Guruda 9 years ago#3 If you follow Vegh's advice (protip, he doesn't know nearly as much about these games as he likes to pretend) you'll miss everything that makes the game good, which is to say the story and characters and the world-building. You'll probably want to do sidequests for the Mira, the items and the rewards that come from raising your Bracer Rank but even if you skip a bunch you're looking at about 40 hours. |
helldew 9 years ago#4 about 30-40ish hours and yeah while you can skip side quests i would recemend against skipping all cause a big part of the franchise is world building and the script in this game is massive. skipping the side quests IMO feels like skipping a big part of the game. ---- |
VeghEsther 9 years ago#5 I play JRPG's for battles not the long xenosaga type text the game has so if you skip all the text other then BP choices I still got 100% BP In under 30 hours (and started SC's 8th chapter of the 9 in about 25.) |
vorfeed 9 years ago#6 And you also miss story points that tell you how to fight bosses that would be inordinately difficult without said advice. :D - Endless History: A Falcom News Site - //www.esterior.net -

VeghEsther 9 years ago#7 Well FC doesn't have really any hard bosses save for the one where if you lose you won't get any BP at all. But still because of the long text the game has I'd rather skip all text but the ones that give out BP and still got 100% BP in 25 to 30 hours (my SC run to do the same) took me closer to 40 hours and that's only because the game itself is 2 UMD's long. |
kern 9 years ago#8 vivi21 posted... Without doing any sidequests or anything extra? One thing to realize about this game is that the "sidequests" are a bigger part of the game than in a lot of RPGs, and there's really nothing extra in terms of bonus dungeons or bosses. In a typical playthrough, the non-essential Guild quests will form at least a third of your playing time, and the story suggests you're supposed to do them. //superfamicomrpgs.blogspot.com/ <--- my two blogs |
VeghEsther 9 years ago#9 Well had I not done the quests my under 25 hours to beat the game would be cut in half for my total game play hours. |

Yeah, but not everyone is as good at these games as you are (granted, you surely used a ton of retries) and will actually be hurting themselves by not doing any quests like the guy last week who struggled to get through the chapter 2 boss due to being grossly underleveled. All other reasons aside, the game becomes difficult by not doing the quests because I suspect it was designed under the assumption a player would do most of them.
