How much does it cost to replace an alternator on a 2006 Nissan Murano?

Franchise dealerships operate under a dealer agreement with a vehicle manufacturer. This repair price has been calculated using official Nissan repair times, genuine parts prices and regional franchise dealer labour rates.

The function of the alternator is simple: supply power to the battery and keep the electronics running. Otherwise, your vehicle will stop working. Your car will send a series of signals that will indicate a failing alternator, including a whirring noise coming from your engine and the smell of burning rubber. If you're starting to notice these warning signs, then you may need to get your alternator replaced immediately.

Mobile Alternator Replacement
At Airtasker, you can find trusted alternator specialists and other mobile mechanics near you, offering you a convenient way of repairing your car's alternator or replacing it as needed. You don't have to risk fixing it yourself or stress over finding a car repair shop in your neighbourhood. Your mobile alternator replacement specialist will go where you are and replace your car's alternator in no time.

Disconnecting the Battery

Before the actual replacement, your Tasker will first disconnect your car battery for safety purposes. Skipping this step might trigger a live wire as they're removing or replacing the alternator, and can cause further damage as well. They will only remove the negative cable while the positive one remains attached.

I've recently replaced my alternator in my 2003 Murano. It is a big job but if your mechanically inclined you'll be fine. If not so much, out source the job. You do need to remove the cooling fans on the radiator but honestly it's just as easy to remove the entire radiator with the fans still attached. Just unplug both fans and set the wire harness aside and pull the whole unit out as one. *TIP* It helps to have two small 4 inch pieces of tubing (not sure the diameter but you'll see what I'm referring to) with a bolt threaded into one end of each tube to use as "plugs" for the transmission fluid cooling in/outlets on the bottom of the radiator so you don't drip tranny fluid everywhere once you disconnect these lines. Also thread a bolt into the end of both transmission fluid cooling lines as you disconnect them from the radiator to minimize fluid loss while doing this job. You will have to remove the front exhaust manifold heat shield too. *TIP* This step will give you that last ---> <--- little bit of room you will need to get the old alternator out and the new one in. You will need to remove the battery and battery tray. Set the fuse box aside that is attached to the battery tray. The front skirting above the radiator will already be removed to remove the radiator. Just be sure the drivers side part of the skirting that connects to the air inlet box is removed too. So you remove the old alternator by sliding it forward towards the radiator, then slide it across the radiator from passenger side towards the drivers side, then out where the battery tray was. The new alternator goes in the same way, from the battery tray, across the radiator into position. *TIP* This is the only way to get the alternator in/out! Even with removing the radiator with fans attached and removing the exhaust manifold heat shield IT WILL BE VERY TIGHT but you can get it in/out. *TIP* It also help if you can get a large piece of cardboard to place in front of the A/C condenser to help protect it's delicate fins while getting the alternators in and out.

I know this is real random and not a complete guide but it should be enough to help you out. Good luck with your repair and if you need anything else PM me and I'll be glad to assist you further.

How long does it take to change the alternator in a Nissan Murano?

It takes about 2 hours for an alternator replacement — about as long as a driveline repair and a little quicker than a clutch repair. The estimated price for parts (including a replacement belt) can range around $290 – $600. And depending on where you get the auto service, labor can cost between $85 to $800.

How long does a Nissan Murano alternator last?

Like every part of your Nissan vehicle, your alternator was built to last for many miles. Typically, an alternator will last between 80,000 and 150,000 miles.

Is fixing an alternator worth it?

Alternator issues won't go away on their own. They'll need to get fixed eventually, and if you wait too long, the issues might become more serious, leading to more expensive repairs and higher bills for you to pay. If you get the issue fixed early on, the repair will usually be much simpler and cheaper.

What's the cost of labor to put an alternator in?

It usually takes two to three hours to replace an alternator. Depending on the mechanic's hourly fee, that's about $200 in labor costs. If you use OEM parts, you can expect to pay between $200 and $350 for a new alternator. If you don't mind using aftermarket parts, you could pay between $100 to $200 for a new part.
