If not cleaned regularly, your front load washer's drain filter will clog, which will affect your machine's efficiency. It traps lint, hair, detergent, tissues, and even coins and paper clips. That's why you should check your pockets before washing your clothes.
A clogged filter will cause your clothes to smell musty and have lint and soap residue. It may also result in more electricity consumption and water accumulation in the tub.
You may have noticed a small door at the bottom corner of your front load washing machine; that's the drain filter.
The first thing you need to do is to open that little door. It will be easy to open. If you face a problem opening it, the washer manual will guide you through the process.
Once you open it, you'll see a drain hose and the drain pump filter. Keep a small bucket around, pull the drain hose, but be careful not to pull it too far to avoid twisting it and preventing it from draining properly. Now, drain the hose in the bucket. Once it's done draining, put it back.
Next, you'll be cleaning the drain pump filter by turning it counter-clockwise, pulling it, and removing any visible things clogging the drain. Put the drain pump filter back in place by turning it clockwise.
