its your defrost button on the dash by the climate control stuff. there isn't an extra button on the mirror control. Joined Oct 17, 2007 · 12,675 Posts
I do believe the heated side mirrors are controlled by the rear window defroster button. Joined Sep 28, 2017 · 2 Posts

Sep 29, 2017 Yes, it is tied into the rear window defrost button. The manual shows a heated mirror icon on the button along with the rear window defrost icon but the button in the truck does not have the mirror icon.

i just have the button on the dash for my mirrors. there is no rear window defrost in my truck so mine does just the mirrors. its that button though. you depress it and the all of your defroster stuff will turn on (the electric stuff not the windshield defroster that uses HVAC).
I do not have a switch as shown in the manual for activating heated mirrors. My mirrors do have the heated mirror emblem on them. Do I have the ability to have heated mirrors possibly through an upfitter switch?

How to activate heated mirrors
Hey, i have an F150 and an 08 ESCAPE XLT.
On the F150 if I want mirror heat, there is a switch for it---no switch on the ESCAPE (or havent found it yet)
How are these activated/shut off? Is it all automatic or do they run forever if the defrost is in use?

Found this at: motorcraft.com, tech section, owners guides, 2008 Escape, 2nd printing:
"Heated outside
mirrors (if equipped) Both mirrors are heated automatically to remove ice, mist and fog when the rear window defrost is activated.
Do not remove ice from the mirrors with a scraper or attempt to readjust the mirror glass if it is frozen in place.
These actions could cause damage to the glass and mirrors."
So I guess the mirrors are heated automatically when you manually turn on the rear window defroster. Good marketing wordsmithing!

The switch is on the center dash section, third button down, left of the fan speed control.
Sure you have that option? You can see the heating grid on the rear window but the mirrors only have a small marking which looks like heat rising, 3 or 4 wiggling lines.

Thanks for the comments.
So if I understand correctly, there is only one defrost switch, which when pressed starts a timed cycle that sends power to both of the mirrors, and the rear glass for the entire duration of the timed cycle, regardless of whether rear glass or mirrors
or both are frosted up? There is no way to segregate heat to just mirrors or just back glass.
Is this how it works?
I thought there should be 2 switches.

Yes, one switch for both. I can't recall for sure if it's a timed cycle or not and the manual doesn't mention it at all.
It could stay ON till you shut it OFF and I believe that it defaults to OFF when the engine is shut OFF or on a restart it's OFF.

2005 Escape heated mirrors
After reading this thread, i was wondering if anyone could answer my question???
I have an 05 escape with out heated mirrors and want to install a set. My vehicle mirrors are powered and i also have rear defrost. Does anyone know if the heated mirror wires are pre-installed on the wiring harness for the power mirrors???

Heated mirrors
I looked around the web and found a brochure for the 05s. It was an option, but i don't know if it only came with a certain package.

It's hard to say if it's wired.
For instance, "some" '09 owners that didn't get the OEM Trailer Tow Package still have the complete wiring harness while others don't.
