Now that Jesse and the gang have vanquished the Wither Storm, saved the world, and become totally super famous heroes, life has gotten a bit more...complicated. With more responsibilities and less time for adventure, old friendships have started to fade -- at least until Jesse’s hand gets stuck in a creepy gauntlet that belongs to an ancient underwater temple. Together with old pals and new comrades alike, Jesse embarks on a brand new journey filled with tough choices, good times, and at least one temperamental llama. Includes access to Episodes 2-5 (to be released periodically) in this all-new series from the award-winning studio, Telltale Games. Purchase of this additional content requires Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two - Episode 1.
Show moreWith the first season of Minecraft: Story Mode now fully available on Netflix, many will be wondering whether the story will continue with season 2. The answer for season 2 is likely but looking further ahead the shows future is in jeopardy.
Let’s take a quick look at how we got to where we are. Minecraft: Story Mode is essentially a ‘port’ of the original video game that released back in October 2015.
It comes to Netflix as the service enters into interactive storytelling, something it introduced a couple of years back and will continue producing content for into the future with Black Mirror the next scheduled title to incorporate the technology.
Minecraft: Story Mode was originally developed by Telltale Games who went defunct earlier this year. The cancellation saw many of the studios projects canceled including the Stranger Things video game planned.
Left behind were a skeleton crew to finish up season 1 of Minecraft. The first three episodes landed on November 27th with the “final” two added on December 3rd. There were another 3 episodes in the original first season including A “Portal to Mystery”, “Access Denied” and “A Journey’s End?”.
Future of Minecraft Story Mode on Netflix
Although we’ve had no announcement of more episodes, we can’t make an educated guess that the remaining episodes of season 1 and season 2 are unlikely to head to Netflix.
The skeleton crew likely worked to finish the two “final” episodes we’ve had released now and that concludes the life of Telltale. It’s likely Netflix were privy to conversations at Telltale regarding the future of the company. Multiple investors were lined up to save Telltale but most didn’t follow through. Of course, Netflix themselves could’ve picked up the studio and ported over the rest of their body of work but didn’t happen either.
All this means that if you want to play through the remaining episodes of season 1 or indeed season 2, you’ll need to play it as it was originally developed. The good news is that they’re available on a multitude of platforms and devices.
Will there be a third season?
As we said above, it’s very unlikely. Telltale never planned a third season after season 2 concluded in December 2017 likely because of dwindling sales.
That means we’re likely now done with Minecraft: Story Mode on Netflix which wasn’t the original plan but we’re glad to see some of the episodes see the light of day.
At the end of Minecraft: Story mode, Jesse and the Order of the Stone had become the most famous heroes in the world. Now, several years later, jesse is the leader of Beacon town and discovers the Prismarine Gauntlet, a relic of incredible power. New adventures and friends await in a world bigger than Jesse could have possibly imagined.
If you’re not familiar with Story Mode, it’s a sort of Choose Your Own Adventure set in the Minecraft universe, full of high drama, plucky underdogs, legendary heroes, dastardly villains, incredible peril and perky pigs. Logically enough, Season 2 follows on from Season 1, with players once again filling Jesse’s cuboid shoes, and with a host of familiar faces in tow - but new players should be able to jump right on board!
„— Marsh Davies[16]Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two was an episodic point-and-click narrative-driven graphic adventure video game which is the sequel to Minecraft: Story Mode, released in July 2017 across multiple platforms, with a Nintendo Switch release on November 6, 2018.[2] The game was developed by Mojang Studios, the developer of Minecraft, in collaboration with Telltale Games. Music for the game was composed by Anadel, an atmospheric folk band based in California. The game follows the episodic format that Telltale has used for its previous titles, where player choices and actions have significant effects on later story elements.
On May 31, 2019, it was announced that Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two would no longer be supported following the closure of Telltale Games. The servers for Story Mode - Season Two were discontinued on June 25, 2019, meaning that the episodes are no longer downloadable.[17] Despite being discontinued, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are playable on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 respectively via backward compatibility.[18][19]

Gameplay
Minecraft: Story Mode is an episodic point-and-click narrative-driven graphic adventure video game similar to Telltale's previous titles such as Tales from the Borderlands. The player is able to collect items, solve puzzles, and talk to non-player characters though conversation trees to learn about the story and determine what to do next. Like other Telltale Games, decisions that the player makes have an impact on story elements in future episodes.[20] However, unlike Telltale's previous games that carry more mature or emotional overtones including the death of major characters, Story Mode is known as a family-friendly title, so the decisions are still pivotal and emotional but do not involve mature imagery or themes.[20] Elements of crafting and building, central to Minecraft, are included in the gameplay, following a similar approach.[20] The game features combat and other action sequences, carried out through both quick time events similar to Telltale's other episodic games, and more arcade-like controls, such as steering around debris on a road.[21][22] The game also mixes new characters with original themes to make an entirely original Minecraft experience.
