anchester United battle Atletico Madrid in Oslo this afternoon in their penultimate pre-season friendly of the summer.
This heavyweight tie is a repeat of last season’s Champions League last-16 tussle, when the Spaniards progressed 2-1 on aggregate after a decisive 1-0 second-leg victory at Old Trafford.
It’s certainly another interesting test for Erik ten Hag’s side, who have largely impressed under their new boss thus far. Certainly, there’s not much about Diego Simeone and Atletico that screams “non-competitive”, even if the game will not be quite as feisty as the ties we witnessed a few months ago.
Again, its important not to put too much emphasis on pre-season, but United have showed signs of promise. Already having beaten Liverpool 4-0, a win against another Champions League-level side would be a statement of sorts.
