I’m looking for a way to reduce my car maintenance costs, so I’ve decided to start doing my own oil changes. What’s the oil type of a 2001 Toyota Camry?

A 2001 Toyota Camry’s oil type is 5W-30 motor oil. Synthetic is okay, but the Camry’s manual says to make sure that whatever brand you get has the American Petroleum Institute (API) seal on it.

The 2001 Toyota Camry 3.5 l v6 engine oil capacity iS6.4 quarts. SAE 5W-30 motor oil is recommended. You should change Your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. You can change the oil Yourself, just remember when You change the oil to also change out the oil filter with a new one. There are also several places like the Mercedes dealership as well as Jiffy Lube and Firestone Auto Care that do oil changes as well. If the oil isn't changed, Your vehicle's engine will start to have a lot of problems. It can cause the engine components to warp and then wear out.

Per the owners manual (p. 250), the 5S-FE engine (2.2 L 4 cyl) takes 3.8 Qts. With filter change and 3.6 without. The 1MZ-FE Engine (3.0 L. 6 cyl) takes 5 Qts with the filter and 4.8 without. Go to the edge of the drivers door and check the model code. If it starts with SXV20 it is the 5S-FE. If it starts with MCV20 it is the 1MX-FE engine. My vehicle was made in KY, USA.

My Toyota 4Cylinder Camry, says on the motor 3.6 quarts… You’re adding a quart and a half to this… Wondering why? Don’t want the oil to leak out of all the gaskets and oil filter

isafiadeo, change your engine oil regularly, using an API certified, grade SJ or better engine oil. 5W30 is the preferred viscosity, but you may use 10W30. Use this guide to change it. Hope this helps, good luck.
