Dr Kannan Kaliyaperumal is a recognised orthopaedic doctor, ankle specialist, as well as a subspecialist for lower limb disorders and surgical treatment in Singapore & the ASEAN region. He graduated from the National University of Singapore (MBBS) and underwent Advanced Specialty Training in orthopaedic surgery in Singapore. He obtained his postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

He was selected by the Singapore Ministry of Health to obtain an HMDP scholarship to continue his specialised fellowship study in Foot and Ankle Surgery in Switzerland and the Netherlands, where he trained in lower limb reconstructive surgery with a focus on Foot and Ankle Reconstruction. During his fellowship training in Europe, Dr. Kannan treated several patients for foot and ankle deformity repair, sports surgery, and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) of the foot and ankle. This furthered his knowledge as an orthopaedic doctor and ankle specialist, which he brought back to Singapore to serve his patients.

Prior to joining the private sector, Dr Kannan was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s (TTSH) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery where he founded the Orthopaedic Department’s Foot and Ankle Division. He also led the Foot and Ankle Division in spearheading and organising the ASEAN surgeons’ First Regional Foot and Ankle Arthroscopy Course. Dr. Kannan left Tan Tock Seng in 2014 to enter the private sector, where he founded and led the Centre for Foot and Ankle under the Centre for Orthopaedic (CFO) from 2014 to 2020.

Dr. Kannan Kaliyaperumal has published articles in international peer-reviewed publications, sharing his expertise as an orthopaedic surgeon and ankle specialist in Singapore with people all over the world. His special interest in cartilage regeneration and the therapy of cartilage defects led him to perform the first successful artificial scaffold repair for a talus osteochondral defect in the ASEAN region in 2013.

Playing an active role as a clinical educator as well as an orthopaedic doctor in Singapore, he is also a clinical Senior Lecturer of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore involved in undergraduate medical education in Singapore. He is also a faculty member of the National Healthcare Group Residency program, involved in the teaching of Residents.   He is also an International Faculty member of the AO trauma group where he had taught in China, India, Thailand and Singapore. As a foot and ankle specialist in Singapore, he is also passionate in developing the Foot & Ankle specialty in the region and has conducted numerous courses and has been invited as chairperson and faculty to various F&A courses and symposiums in Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

Dr Kannan is also the principal supervisor of the Singapore Medical Council accredited Foot & Ankle Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship program in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is also an appointed panel member of the Ministry of Health Singapore Diabetic Foot Workgroup Committee.
