Mike Anderson, the constable of the isolated Maine island hamlet Little Tall Island, is facing the toughest challenge of his career. Not only is a devastating winter storm bearing down on his community, but it brings with it one Andre Linoge, a sinister stranger. Linoge, who may just be the devil incarnate, has an uncanny knowledge of all of the town's dark secrets, and he uses that knowledge to drive some of the locals to murder and suicide. With each horrific event, Linoge repeats his demand: "Give me what I want and I'll go away." What he wants, however, is more horrifying still.

Chilling performances and an even darker moral dilemma shelter Storm of the Century's somewhat long-winded tale from ever being anything less than watchable.

Suspenseful, entertaining, and thought provoking. On the surface, watching this movie seems like a bear to watch at over 4 hours in length, but it was intended to be viewed in hour long segments over the course of 5 weeks during the winter (including commercials). This is not a movie at all, its a mini series, much like all of stephen kings made for tv work (it, tommyknockers, the shining [reboot], rose red, etc.). I actually watched this initially in that format with my family and it was a really good format and kept the pacing at a decent clip. To boot, i think i was 12 when i watched this during a New England winter. The movie still holds up and i have watched it in its entirety 6 or 7 times.

Probably the most Stephen King of Stephen King adaptations. This movie is disturbing and it's twisted and it's overall just going to leave you sitting down looking at your TV screen wondering what the hell happened. Great Miniseries.

Storm of the Century contains everything there is to love about good Stephen King. Mystery, monsters and Maine are in full swing here.
Jan 15, 2020
It is the most effective King miniseries the network has presented. In this genuinely unsettling epic, good and evil face off on a small Maine island pounded by a nor'easter in 1989.

The three-night terror fest is the first written-for-television thriller from the prolific Stephen King, and nobody spins a horror yarn better. Like a spider weaving a web, King slowly draws you under his spell until you are powerless to leave.
Jan 15, 2020
King's first original mini-series script is a marathon of communal anxiety with a spooky moral: we are ready to mortgage our children for our own restless comfort.

While entertaining at times, Storm of the Century... rises barely midway up the horror scale. If you're looking for a major fright, in other words, look elsewhere.

King's first miniseries written directly for TV carries a wicked-chill factor of roughly 30-below.

King and ABC have come up with some memorable black magic.

The gray-tinged "Storm" repeats itself a bit too much. But it is a psychological grabber. It frightens by mind control rather than with cheap thrills.

Classic storytelling. It's Stephen King as spellbinder, gathering us around the prime-time campfire -- enthralling, dazzling and scaring our pants off before sending us to bed afraid to turn off the lights.

Storm of the Century has the perfect setup for a gripping story, and King and his collaborators do not disappoint.

Storm admirably follows through on its hopeless premise...
Nov 20, 2018
Best of all is Colm Feore's insinuating, understated performance as Linoge, whose unblinking eyes and seductive voice make his words all the more terrifying.
Nov 20, 2018
It's the same old slogging, soggy spookery, derivative and uninspired, protracted beyond all sense of decency.
Nov 20, 2018
Cut down to a more manageable length, this could've been something good. In its final, ungodly lengthy form, however, it's a total bust.
Nov 20, 2018
This miniseries is a somewhat hidden gem among Stephen King's 70-plus movies/miniseries...
Nov 20, 2018
It also earns respect because Tim Daly-who plays the bland good guy constable-is exactly the right level of vanilla...
Nov 20, 2018
It's edge-of-the-couch good in some spots. The trouble is that it has too many spots. So many that the title should have been changed to "Story That Lasts a Century."
Nov 20, 2018
Craig R. Baxley's stylish direction, some fine ensemble acting from Timothy Daly and others... and especially Feore's chilly performance keep things generally interesting.
Nov 20, 2018
King should write for TV more often.
Nov 20, 2018
We benefit from the fact that King is a TV dabbler - he doesn't know you're not supposed to chew over interesting ethical dilemmas about personal responsibility in a piece of February sweeps programming.
