What car has a rear window that rolls down

My 1995 Honda Del Sol has a back window that rolls down. In a discussion with my uncle and we couldn't think of more cars besides the newer Toyota SUVs that have them. Are there any other vehicles (especially coupes or sedans) that people know of that have a power back window?

An SUV with a rear window that opens makes all the difference when you’re traveling with your pups as it gives them that little bit of extra freedom and a lovely breeze.

Cars can get very hot very quickly especially when you have an extra coat of fur covering you so your dogs might want to stick their head out the window mid-journey.

An opening rear window can be a massive help with this as it means you don’t have to keep stopping for some fresh air. So here are our top 7 SUVs with an opening rear window to make your journey that little bit smoother.

Not all SUVs have a rear opening window but some of the best options out there include the Toyota Highlander, Jeep Cherokee, Nissan Pathfinder, and Honda Pilot.

1. Toyota Highlander

The Toyota Highlander is a brilliant SUV no matter what you’re looking for as it ensures top comfort and safety on your journey, the opening rear window is just another one of its perks!

The vehicle is heavily customizable as you can choose everything from your engine to your driving style to whatever suits you best.

You’ll always get great power no matter which one you go for but you’ll also get a nearly silent ride which is amazing for a vehicle of this size.

Whether it’s pets or passengers joining you on your journey, the room is not something you’ll have to worry about. The Highlander fits 7 people with enough leg room to spare and a huge sunroof that makes the car feel that little bit bigger.

The 2.5-liter engine and hybrid power technology mean your car has as much power as possible. It will automatically switch between electric and gas which will save you time and money on filling up your tank.

You also get a feel of what it’s like to drive an electric if that’s something you’ve been wanting to try. Safety is one of Toyota’s main points of focus when it comes to their vehicles which is why the Highlander includes a pre-collision warning system.

This will alert the driver if there is any danger but will also automatically engage the brakes if needed.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee

This SUV is built and equipped for any and all terrains with three 4×4 system options and 5 driving styles (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, or Mud/Sand) which means you can go wherever you want with ease.

Quadra-Lift Suspension is another fascinating piece of technology the Grand Cherokee has.

This allows you to raise the vehicle to clear obstacles when you’re off-roading but later lower the vehicle when you’re on suburban roads or highways in order to maximize aerodynamics.

Fancy taking your boat on your next adventure? Well, it’s never been easier as this SUV has a towing capacity of 7,200 pounds! Don’t panic about a little water either, in fact, you can withstand 24 inches thanks to the Jeep Quadra-Lift, high air intake, and water sealing.

You also have 11.3 inches of ground clearance so whether it’s water or rocky terrain, your SUV has your back. Precision steering is also a massive help when trying to get passed those tricky parts.

Jeep has many different options when it comes to engines for their Grand Cherokee. If it’s power you want then maybe the V8 engine is the one for you or if this is just your everyday car then the V6 will do nicely.

Maybe you want to give a hybrid engine a try which provides 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque for maximum power?

3. Honda Pilot

Bigger and better than ever with the new TrailSport edition that’s perfect for all those adventures! This is an SUV that isn’t afraid of attention with sleek and vibrant designs throughout as well as being heavily aerodynamic for the smoothest drive possible.

You can fit up to eight people with generous legroom all around. Heated seats also make for an insanely comfortable ride wherever you’re going.

The Honda Pilot also includes the Honda Sensing Suite technology that uses sensors to alert the driver if there are any obstacles around but can also add assisted steering and braking if and when needed.

Lane Keeping Assist System also helps keep you all safe whilst driving at fast speeds on the highway. The system will keep you centered in whatever lane you’re in when you’re cruising by making small adjustments to your steering.

Another safety feature is the Collision Mitigating Braking System which is similar to the HSS. This will alert you if you are at risk of collision with another vehicle or pedestrian and engage the brakes to lower the risk of an accident.

4. Nissan Pathfinder

The Nissan Pathfinder has had many updates and facelifts with the first generation version coming out in 1985 and the fifth generation version recently making an appearance in 2021.

This SUV has only gotten bigger with every installation with the 2021 version being 1.5 inches longer, 0.6 inches wider and 0.5 inches taller than previous styles. It also has great power with an amazing 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque.

We see the 2021 model being able to deal with different terrains with far more ease as it includes a 4×4 system with 7 settings so you’ll have perfect control no matter where you are.

The Nissan Pathfinder will keep you and other road users safe with its trailer sway control technology which eliminates potential accidents caused by swaying. The safety Shield 360 also adds extra protection against obstacles that could be causing an obstruction.

We see far more advanced technology in the newer models with an 8-inch touchscreen so you can easily play your music or use your GPS without having to worry about connecting your phone.

The fifth generation includes 8 seats so you’ll fit everyone and everything you need comfortably with no issue.

5. Toyota Matrix XR 2003-2008

The Toyota Matrix is a much older model that was introduced in 2002 and later discontinued in 2013. Many versions of this car were created but the 2003-3008 XR was the closest they came to an SUV.

A few perks that made this model different from the others were the ability to color match the door handles to the mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheels, and a panic button. You also had a sunroof and 17-inch alloy wheels.

There is plenty of room in this SUV as the rear seats fold flat to reveal a 53.2 cu ft area for whatever it is you need to carry around. There are also eight tie-downs and space to add more to ensure all your stuff stays exactly where it should be.

Maybe you have a surfing getaway planned? Well, no need to worry about how you’re going to get your board there as the passenger seat also folds flat to accommodate for this.

This is a brilliant and spacious SUV but could be argued that some of the perks work much better for a single person rather than if the vehicle was used as a family car.

Even with the discontinuation, you can still get the Toyota Matrix second-hand in many places.

6. Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most popular SUV’s out there with its iconic look and amazing features. You could spot the 7 slot grille from a mile away and the vibrant colors are unmatched.

Feel closer to nature with the retractable Sky One Touch roof and experience extreme comfort with heated seats and dual-zone climate control which allows you to control the temperature of both the driver and passenger seats separately.

Safety is a given when it comes to the Jeep Wrangler with a built-in Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Path Detection so you’ll always know exactly what’s around you.

This is also a vehicle built for those rough and bumpy roads with an amazing 4×4 system. The tech with this one is absolutely unmatched. Ever thought that your windscreen would be so much better if you could open it every once in a while?

Well, Jeep agrees as you have the option to fold your windscreen down with the removal of a few bolts. This makes you appreciate all the beautiful scenery you’re driving through just that little bit more.

You also have the ability to remove all the doors for even more freedom whilst on your adventures. Heated mirrors also ensure you are never stuck with that annoying layer of snow that makes it so much harder to see.

Worrying about whether you have enough room for cargo is a thing of the past with the trunk capacity being 1,059 liters with the seats folded flat. You will also find some hidden compartments here to store any valuables.

There’s also no need to worry if you’ve forgotten a plug as there are many outlets throughout the Wrangler.

7. Ford Bronco

The Bronco has been around for a while with the original making an appearance in 1966 and it’s only gotten better since then. If off-roading is what you plan on doing then this might be the one for you.

The 30-inch tires and 8.3 inches of clearance (37-inch tires and 13.1-inch ground clearance on Bronco Raptor) make navigating difficult terrain and rocky paths easier than ever to enjoy.

There are also steel bash plates placed underneath the SUV that protect all the essential equipment so no need to worry about damaging those.

The Terrain Management System allows you to choose any of the seven modes for wherever it is you’re driving so you get the best out of your vehicle.

Three available trail technologies also help you have the smoothest ride possible. Trail Turn Assist lowers the turning radius by applying the brakes to the inside rear wheel.

Trail Control means you don’t have to worry about accelerating and breaking meaning you can enjoy, acting similar to cruise control.

Trail 1-Pedal Drive allows you to stop your vehicle without using the brakes by slowing the car when pressure is released from the accelerator.

The only downside to this particular SUV is the number of seats with the 2-door model seating up to 4 and the 4-door model seating up to 5.

You can however comfortably sleep with 2 people after a long day of adventure. There is 22.4 cu-ft of cargo space in the 2-door model and 52.3 cu-ft in the 4-door model so you can have everything you need in easy reach.
