Pokemon SoulSilver Version (DS)
Egg from Mr. Pokemon?
I'm wondering if there's any way to tell what kind of pokemon is going to hatch from the egg given to you at the beginning, because all I ever get from them is Togepi. Is there something I can do to get something else?
Accepted Answer
The egg given to you by Mr. Pokemon is compulsory and will always be a Togepi.
It's part of the storyline after all, as back in Gold and Silver, Togepi was the very first egg Pokemon to be introduced.3 3

Ahh I remember.
You were actually given two eggs. The one from Mr. Pokemon (at the beginning) was always Togepi but you were supposedly given another egg later on in the game (I think before Goldenrod)That second egg was able to hatch into 1 of 7 different Pokemon. Elekid must've been one of them. I'm not too sure what the others were.

Keep going north and you will reach Mr. Pokemon's House. He gives you the "Mystery Egg" which will eventually hatch into Togepi. Then, Professor Oak dashes out from behind a desk and gives you a brand-new Pokedex. As fast as he appeared, he rushes off to go to Goldenrod City. When you leave the house, Professor Elm calls, asking you back to New Bark Town immediately. Follow his instructions (he did give you a rare Pokemon, after all).
When you come back after giving the Mystery Egg to Professor Elm, continue northwest to Route 31.
Later
Once you have collected some Pokemon, a guy near the entrance to the Dark Cave will give ask for your phone number if you talk to him. Talk to all the trainers you beat in the game, since many of them will also want to trade phone numbers. They will periodically call you to tell you about their adventures, but sometimes they will have useful information, particularly about when certain rare Pokemon are swarming.
Much later
When you get the Red Scale, come back to talk to Mr. Pokemon again. He will trade it for the handy EXP Share, and item that lets the Pokemon holding it share in the EXP of every battle, even if it doesn't fight.

The Mystery Egg that Professor Elm gives to the player in “Pokémon HeartGold” hatches after the player walks between 2805 and 3059 steps while holding the egg. It hatches into a level 1 Togepi. In “Pokémon HeartGold,” the player initially
receives the Mystery Egg from Mr. Pokémon on Route 30, and he delivers it to Professor Elm to study it. Later in the game, after the player earns the Zephyr badge, Professor Elm’s aide Zuki in the Violet City Pokémart gives the egg back to the player to hatch it. The Togepi hatched from this egg knows the move Extrasensory, a psychic move that Togepi can only learn otherwise by breeding with a Noctowl or Hoothoot. MORE FROM REFERENCE.COM
