In The Outer Worlds, there are some special mods that allow players to modify their weapons and armors. There are two major types of mods: Weapon Mods and Armor Mods. Now in weapons mods we have two subcategories of Ranged weapon Mods and Melee weapon Mods. In this guide, we will explain each and every mod along with its location in The Outer Worlds.

The Outer Worlds Weapon Mods

Mods for Ranged weapons will allow you to modify your ranged weapons in some pretty cool ways. These mods include Magazines, Scopes, Barrels and much more. The following are all the mods in The Outer World along with their function and location.

Mag-Num

  • It is a Magazine for your ranged weapon.
  • Increases magazine size by +50%.

Location: This can be found at Spacer’s choice Insta-Merch vending machine at Edgewater Cemetery, and in a locked container in Silas’ house in Edgewater Cemetery.

The weapon selection in The Outer Worlds is very diverse; you can wield everything from a sniper rifle to a shrink ray. However, what really helps them stand out isn't their variety, but instead the number of modifications that you can find and equip onto your weapons.

Where To Find Weapons Mods

Weapon mods aren't a one-size-fit-all item when it comes to location. You can find weapon mods all over the place, including inside chests, within merchant inventories, on defeated enemies, and even in vending machines.

However, although most of the weapon mods in The Outer Worlds are found in randomly generated locations, there are a few that are set to certain locations and don't change throughout your adventure. For example, you can always buy the Mag-2-Ray modification inside of the Spacer's Choice vending machine at Edgewater. This is a great source of weapon mods early in a playthrough, since vending machines are so common.

How To Attach Mods To Your Weapons

To upgrade your weapon with a new modification, you'll need to find a weapon workbench and interact with it. Weapon workbenches are found throughout the solar system in every major city; however, the easiest place to find a weapon workbench is on your ship, The Unreliable. The workbench is located to the left of your door when you first enter the ship, inside the largest room.

Once you've found a weapon workbench, you can start attaching mods onto your weapons by selecting a weapon and placing a mod onto it. You'll quickly notice that every weapon has three spots for modifications; this is because there are different types of weapons mods. For example, you can modify your gun with a larger ammo magazine and also with a mod that increases its overall damage. The combinations are endless, and it's another choice-based aspect of The Outer Worlds.

Another important thing to keep in mind while installing weapon mods at a workbench is that you can also upgrade your weapon's base damage. To do this, interact with a weapon workbench. The main limitations of this feature are that you can only upgrade your weapon as high as your current level, and you need a lot of in-game money to keep upgrading your equipment at higher levels. This is a worthwhile feature for unique weapons, such as Science Weapons, but it's not always worth it for regular weapons that could be replaced by picking up new ones while traveling around the Halcyon System.

Can You Change Your Weapon Modification Later?

Luckily, you can change your weapon modifications easily by traveling to a weapon workbench and picking a new modification from your inventory. You are then allowed to equip a new set of weapon mods onto your weapon. Unfortunately, the weapon mods that you previously installed onto your weapon won't survive the change, so you can't sell your old weapon mods to vendors.

Every Type Of Ranged Weapon Mod

Ranged weapons are the core of combat in The Outer Worlds, and they make up the majority of the equipment found throughout your adventure. Because of their variety, ranged weapons have a lot of weapon mods to collect, and you'll want to make sure to consider all of your choices before installing a modification that you can't retrieve if you change your mind.

Some weapons don't have the capacity for weapon modifications because they are unique; an example of this is Science Weapons. Science weapons have unique abilities, and a lot of weapon mods don't apply to them. Here are the main types of ranged weapon modifications that you can acquire and install on your weapons.

Every Type Of Melee Weapon Mod

the_outer_worlds_character_holding_melee_weapon

Although melee combat character builds are less varied than ranged combat, melee weapons are still important for players that prefer to fight in a close-up environment. There aren't quite as many melee weapons to choose from in The Outer Worlds compared to guns, which means that you also have less variety in terms of melee weapon modification. Regardless, some melee weapon mods are incredibly powerful, so you should learn about every option you have before upgrading your equipment.
