General Hospital
60 Seasons
The classic Gloria Monty soap charting the trials of Port Charles' medical center. Even daytime naysayers tuned in to see the celebrated nuptials of supercouple Luke and Laura, who scored covers of both Time and Newsweek during the same month. Over time, the series flirted with sci-fi, sexy aliens, adventurous location shoots and a late '90s mafia madness. It debuted on April Fools' Day 1963 and spun off the gothic guilty pleasure that was 'Port Charles' (which was canceled in 2003).

Where to Watch
I watched the Aussie version, and then this ABC version. The latter seemed like a remake at first, right down to the identical dialog. Still it was enjoyable. I stuck with it and as the versions diverged, I found both versions valuable, each on it’s own.
As someone who hates paying extra for video, especially when there is so much included on broadcast, cable, and streaming, this was one extra charge that was more than worth it.
Here’s why I think you should watch
both versions:
1 - The screen-play throws suspicion on everyone in sight. Knowing the villain allows you to see all the clues that you missed the first time.
2 - Watching two different executions of the same work is not the same as watching the same series twice. In the latter case, you get bored and lose focus. I would not have watched either version twice.
3 - Seeing the two versions, despite the similarities allows you appreciate the artistic differences.
4 - There is a homage
value.
5 - It’s coming back for season 2, apparently with a whole new mystery, and cast changes. As so many great shows get canceled after 1 season, this is a clear sign that Secrets and Lies reaches a higher level.
I don't go in for tearjerkers, but the occasional sad scenes were compelling and moving.
If you absolutely cannot watch both version, because of limited time, money, and/or patience, google the plot and knowing the villain, watch the shorter, free Aussie version.
I advise ignoring the 1 and 2 star ratings, and anyone calling the ABC version a remake. The people probably did not stay with it long enough.
