Calculation:

Let the equation of the required line be y = mx + c.

Since this line pass through (5, 8), we must have:

⇒ 8 = 5m + c        ---(1)

Also, the slope of the x-axis is 0 and, therefore, the slope of the required line should also be 0.

i.e. m = 0.

Substituting this value of m in equation (1), we get:

c = 8.

∴ The required equation of the line is:

y = 0(x) + 8

y = 8.

y - y1 = m(x - x1)

m = 5

x1 = 5

y1 = -8
