  1. Whether you're at home or traveling, you can take your pet to any licensed vet, emergency room or rehab facility.

  2. Ask your vet for an itemized invoice with the total amount you pay for each pet, including discounts and taxes.

  3. Provide the details of your visit, including diagnosis, date and total invoice amount. You can apply online or send the form found in your MyEmbrace account via fax or mail.

  4. Log on to your MyEmbrace account to track your claim online. An adjuster will review your claim and contact you if they need more information.

  5. After your claim is approved, Embrace can deposit the money into your U.S. bank account within two business days. It can take up to 10 business days to get a check in the mail.

Is there an age limit on insurance for dogs or cats?

Embrace insures dogs and cats of any age. If the pet is older than 14, they're eligible for an accident-only policy.

Once you're signed up, coverage locks in for life. If your pet is eligible for full accident and illness coverage when enrolling, that will continue for as long as your pet remains insured. Embrace will never drop your pet or reduce their coverage based on age, health status or claims.

Is there a waiting period after I get a pet insurance policy?

All new policies require waiting periods to prevent fraud. They start on the date your pet's policy becomes effective. The policy doesn't cover accidents and illnesses either occurring or diagnosed during the following waiting periods:

  • Illnesses — 14 days

  • Accidents — 48 hours

  • Orthopedic conditions — Six months (Applies only to dogs. An orthopedic exam and waiver process can shorten it to 14 days.)

What's a pre-existing condition?

Pre-existing conditions can be:

  • Chronic conditions you or your veterinarian observe prior to the end of your waiting period.
  • Illnesses or injuries that occur before the end of your waiting period.
  • Other conditions you may have previously observed but didn't have a veterinarian diagnose.

Pre-existing conditions aren't covered.

If you'd like, you can request a medical history review. A claims adjuster can look at your pet's medical records to let you know what conditions — if any — are considered pre-existing. It's important to note that Embrace doesn't automatically perform a review. You must request one. However, it's free and available to anyone with a policy.

Embrace does distinguish between curable and incurable pre-existing conditions. Examples of incurable pre-existing conditions include diabetes and allergies. Curable pre-existing conditions include ear infections and undiagnosed vomiting or diarrhea. Since these issues are curable, they could be covered moving forward if the pet goes 12 months without symptoms.
