⇒ 13a/10
New area of the square = (13a/10)2
⇒ (169a2/100)
Increased area = (169a2/100 – a2)
⇒ (169a2 – 100a2)/100
⇒ 69/100
Increased percentage = (69/100 × 100)
⇒ 69%
∴ The required percentage increase in area is 69%
Shortcut Trick If the sides of the square increase by a% then the percentage change in area = a + a + a2/100
Here change in sides is 30%
⇒ change in the area = 30 + 30 + (30)2/100
⇒ 60 + 900/100 = 69
∴ The required percentage increase in area is 69%
