Why cant I take photos on Instagram story

Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 29, 2022) follows:

Owned by Meta, Instagram is the fourth most popular social media platform on the internet. It is slowly climbing up the ranks and now has more than 2 billion users.

Instagram generated a whopping $47.6 billion in revenue last year, accounting for around half of Meta’s total revenue.

But lately, many have been complaining about bugs and issues such as the app showing ‘This effect is not available in your country’ error message and Reels music not working or unavailable.

And now, Instagram users are reporting they are unable to post Stories using the camera. However, the camera roll seems to be working just fine.

Why can’t I post on my IG story without giving IG access to my camera and microphone? I used to be able to select a photo from my camera roll to give IG access to to post it on my story, now I can’t even do that, the app wants access to everything for me to be able to post anything. Is it like this for everyone? How do I get around it?

my Instagram stories aren’t letting me add filters or effects on them – they’ve just completely disappeared even after I deleted and reinstalled the app. And now my camera feature is gone so it’ll only let me post photos from my camera roll?? Anyone else?

Adding to the trouble, several users are also complaining about the translation feature not working. Many are frustrated since they are unable to understand people they had followed from another region.

You can see in the image below how it looks like when users try to translate a message.

Unfortunately, Instagram is yet to acknowledge any of the issues. That said, we have a couple of workarounds that might help fix these problems.

Those on Android can try clearing app data and cache to see if it fixes the problem. If the camera is not working, make sure Instagram has permission to use the camera on the device.

If this doesn’t work, try uninstalling the current version and download an older version of the app to see if it helps.

Those on iOS should ensure the app has permissions to use the camera. We hope Instagram developers soon release an update that fixes both issues.

As always, we will be updating this space when the problem is resolved so make sure you stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.

Update 1 (June 30)

10:36 am (IST): A user suggested that camera works when you swipe right on your feed. So, those who are unable to post stories using the camera can try this as a temporary workaround and see if it helps.

Update 2 (July 1)

12:08 pm (IST): One of our readers has suggested a potential workaround that might help you fix this issue. You can check it out below.

Workaround: An easy workaround is to hold down the IG app icon from your phone’s home screen and select ‘camera’ from the drop down

Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t seem to be much better. “Anyone else tried adding an @Instagram story and only see a blurry picture?” another user posed.

But that doesn’t seem to be the only issue with the photo-sharing app. Users are now facing a new frustration: their camera is not working while in Instagram Stories. What’s up with that? Keep scrolling for some troubleshooting tips.

Some Instagram users aren't able to access their camera when trying to post a Story.

Nothing is as frustrating as when your phone glitches in the middle of trying to capture a picture-perfect moment — like when the bride and groom share their first kiss at their wedding or when your bestie blows out the candles on their birthday cake.

But unfortunately, a lot of wonderful moments are being missed due to this social media snag. Apparently, for some folks, the in-app camera is not working whenever they try to snap a photo or record. They've taken to Twitter to share their complaints.

Hey @instagram I haven't been able to post stories since sometime yesterday. The in-app camera doesn't work and all added pics come up blurry (including screencap and pic I uploaded). Would have made a bug report, but it's frozen on the spinning circle, so letting you know here pic.twitter.com/85A6G6YHtj

Now, while a quick workaround would be to take a photo on your phone and then open it in the Instagram app, users are also having trouble accessing their camera roll while on the app. This basically makes it impossible for users post an original photo or video to their Story.

How to fix your Instagram Story camera:

The bad news is that Instagram — or rather Meta — is playing the quiet game and hasn't made a public announcement regarding this major glitch.

The good news is it's not an app-wide issue. In fact, we can confirm that Distractify's Instagram is working perfectly and the Stories are pretty lit — if we do say so ourselves. Hopefully, this will give you hope that you too can be one of the lucky ones with the power to access your camera and camera roll while on Instagram Stories.

That said, here are some things you can try doing to remedy this issue.

  • Restart your phone
  • Delete your Instagram app and then re-download it
  • Log out of the app and then login again
  • Make sure your app is up to date by going to the App Store or Play Store on your phone and checking to see if there are any new versions or updates to download

  • Try to clear cache, which means delete any information that has been automatically stored on your device when on using the photo-sharing platform. To do this, go to your profile on your app and tap on the three horizontal lines in the upper right-hand corner. Then look for "Recent Searches" and tap on that. You should now see an option that says "Clear Data." Tap on that and if it asks you to confirm, say yes. Those instructions can also be found here.

Good luck! We know it must feel like a total drag when the most popular photo-sharing app literally won't allow you to post photos, but hang in there. If we know Meta, they'll have this fixed in no time.
