Mission Statement
The mission of the Physician Assistant Studies Master of Science Program at MUSC is to graduate highly competent physician assistants who are compassionate, culturally aware and attuned to the primary healthcare needs of the people of South Carolina and beyond. They will be prepared to provide quality, evidence based, patient-centered healthcare as integral members of interdisciplinary healthcare teams. They will be ambassadors for the physician assistant profession as they help meet the healthcare needs of the larger community through education, research, and service.

Johns Hopkins – Bayview Hospital Baltimore, MD 18 months 1 every 6 months Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Residency Program The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Residency Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview allows PA residents the opportunity to train at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions for a career in emergency medicine. Residents are paid a stipend of $46,000 per year (a total of $69,000 for the entirety of the 18-month residency), and are provided life, AD&D, short-term disability and malpractice insurance. Medical, dental and vision plans also are offered, as well as continuing medical education funds. All residents receive paid time off. The program is based at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and is part of the Association of Post-graduate PA Programs. The US Army/ Air Force-Baylor Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (EMPA) Residency Must be Active Duty Army or Air Force, with a minimum of 4 years (Army) or 2 years (Air Force) active commissioned service as a Physician Assistant. JBSA Fort Sam Houston, TX 18 months EMPA US ARMY/AIR FORCE BAYLOR DSC Overview The US Army/ Air Force-Baylor Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (EMPA) Residency is an 18 month program that incorporates a variety of clinical rotations, formal didactic instruction, and research. The residency prepares the EMPA to evaluate, diagnose, and stabilize those conditions which pose an immediate threat to life and limb. The US Army/ Air Force EMPA Residency is unique in that it exists within an established Emergency Medicine Residency (San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium/SAUSHEC) which enhances educational and research opportunities. In 2007, in collaboration with the sponsoring institution, Baylor University, the EMPA Residency was approved as the first Doctorate of Science (DSc) degree producing program specifically for PA’s.
