In 2021, the California Department of Social Services paid roughly $92,000 in fraud claims. By that time in 2022, they had already paid almost $3.8 million. Officials said the number of homeless in L.A. County was up just over 4% this year compared with double digits previously. The numbers seem to defy what we see on the streets — and even some unhoused are laughing at the results. A CBS2 Investigation into some of Hollywood's biggest celebrities found many of them using more than their allotted amount of water and violating water district rules. In the two months since the investigation, have they gotten the message? The charges stem from a "heated dispute" between a newly promoted LASD narcotics lieutenant and a woman at the famed Matsuhisa Restaurant in Beverly Hills. CBS reported on
the home back in November of last year, at which point publicly-funded cleanup crews cleared more than 20,000 pounds of trash from the yard. Now, more than a year later, and with no noticeable change in sight, LA County has taken matters into their own hands. Top Stories

Protection Agency said Wednesday it will consider adopting stricter rules on locomotive emissions in response to concerns by California regulators. On Friday, Twitter laid off 7,500 workers, about 50% of its staff, just days after Elon Musk began his tenure as its new owner. Elon Musk closed out the $44 billion deal to acquire San Francisco-based social media giant Twitter Thursday and immediately cleaned out the C-suite, firing CEO Parag Agrawal and CFO Ned Segal. Gas prices climbed for the 20th consecutive day Thursday, now up 34 cents during that time period. Experts claim that Cineworld, parent company of Regal Cinemas, filed for bankruptcy last week.
