What does smite in minecraft do

MultiVersus players have been wondering when couch co-op is set to arrive in the fighting game, and one of the developers has now provided an update.

Ever since the MultiVersus beta launched in July 2022, the free-to-play title has won over a large player base with its impressive collection of popular characters such as Batman, Bugs Bunny, and Superman.

While players are enjoying the content in Season 1, many have been wondering when the developers are planning to bring couch co-op to MultiVersus. Now, we’ve got an update about this.

Couch co-op games are ones that can be played by multiple people on the same system, such as Rocket League and FIFA 23. MultiVersus doesn’t have split-screen functionality and one player asked if the devs are working to add an online couch co-op feature.

This led to a response from Game Director Tony Huynh, who confirmed that this feature is on its way to the game but it will be “further out” as the development team currently have other priorities.

Huynh explained: “Our focus right now is stabilizing our experience. Netcode improvements, hurt/hitboxes, projectiles, platform interactions, etc.”

MultiVersus does support local play, so you and your friends can still play together in the same room on your own devices. You just need to send party invitations to them in order to play co-op together.

However, it can be a bit frustrating if you have only one method of playing and multiple people at home who want to hop into the game. Luckily, the developers are aware of this and the couch co-op feature is in the works.

At the time of writing, the developers haven’t revealed when exactly this feature will arrive in the game. Hopefully, we’ll see it added at some point during MultiVersus Season 2, and we’ll be sure to update you when it arrives.

Enchantments are an important part of Minecraft as they offer a lot of different ways to enhance an aspect of the game. They become especially integral when players want to enter later game activities or just be more efficient overall.

Enchanting itself is more of a late game part of Minecraft due to the materials needed to create an enchanting table, the bookshelves around the enchanting table, and plenty of XP levels that are needed to complete the enchantments themselves. One enchantment that players might want to pay attention to is Smite.

The Smite enchantment is fairly simple and is used as a damage buff. More specifically, Smite increases the damage done to undead mobs in Minecraft.

There are 5 levels to the Smite enchantment, and it can be applied to swords and axes only. Each subsequent level after the first level increases the damage by 2.5, which ends up giving a fairly hefty boost to damage against the undead mobs.

If a diamond sword is used as a base for the metrics, the weapon starts at a base damage of 8 on the bedrock edition. With Smite I, it moves up to 10.5 damage. With Smite V added to the sword, it does a total of 20.5 damage to the undead mobs.

There are a good amount of undead mobs in Minecraft, and it can be easy to forget which ones exactly are considered undead. The list of undead mobs is as follows:

  1. Skeletons
  2. Zombies
  3. Zombie Villagers
  4. Husks
  5. Phantoms
  6. The Drowned
  7. Zoglins
  8. Wither
  9. Wither Skelerons
  10. Zombie Piglins
  11. Skeleton Horses
  12. Zombie Horses
  13. Strays

Clearly there are a ton of undead mobs that players are bound to encounter in a Minecraft playthrough, and that can make the Smite enchantment both highly valuable and convenient when moving around at night. Before players can apply Smite though, they need an enchanting set up.

To craft an enchanting table in Minecraft, players will need 4 blocks of obsidian, 2 diamonds and a book. With a little bit of mining, getting the enchanting table can happen fairly quickly.

Players will then need to place book shelves around the table, essentially as a wall. Each bookshelf, up to 15 bookshelves, increases the maximum enchanting level to 30.

Players will then need to use the XP and levels they get in the Minecraft world in order to apply enchantments like Smite to their supplies.

Is smite 4 good in Minecraft?

Referring to the table above, smite 4 is extremely good and can be used to deal lethal damage to undead mobs.

How good is smite 5?

Fully powered up to level V, Smite can add a whopping 12.5 damage to any weapon of any base damage but only for enemies of the undead variety such as Skeletons, Zombies, Drowned, Withers.

Can you put smite on a bow?

No, the Smite enchantment can only be applied to a sword and axe.

Does smite hurt Enderman?

No. The Smite enchantment can only be used on skeletons, wither skeletons, zombies, zombie pigmen, drowned, and the Wither boss. As the Enderman isn't classified as an undead mob, it will not be dealt extra damage points.

Does smite 5 have one-shot zombies?

Yes, if Smite V is applied to Diamond axes, it can one-shot zombies and skeletons.

Smite is a kind of enchantment in Minecraft that you can only put on swords and axes. It will let you deal more damage to enemies with the enchanted weapon, however, it only increases damage against undead mobs.

How the Smite Enchantment Works

There are 5 levels of the Smite enchantment, with each adding multiples of 1.25 Hearts of damage onto a sword or axe. However, this bonus damage will only activate when the enchanted sword or axe strikes an undead enemy. Undead mobs can be most easily identified by their rotting flesh, visible bones, or being some sort of ghost.

List of All the Mobs That Take Bonus Damage From Smite

  • Drowned
  • Husks
  • Phantoms
  • Skeletons
  • Skeleton Horses
  • Strays
  • Withers
  • Wither Skeletons
  • Zoglins
  • Zombies
  • Zombie Horses
  • Zombie Villagers
  • Zombified Piglins

About Fighting Mobs That Have Armor

It should be noted that mobs that are wearing armor can passively block some of this damage. This is because the bonus damage granted by the Smite enchantment gets combined with the base damage of your weapon. Furthermore, this happens before the game does the damage calculations, so the engine sees your weapon and its enchantments as one entity during combat.

The Bonus Damage Breakdown of the Different Smite Levels

The 1.25 bonus damage per level of Smite is additive, meaning that all of the bonuses from different levels get combined. As such, this can make it easy to determine the flat amount of bonus damage that you will gain from a Smite enchantment. This flat amount gets added to your weapon’s base damage. Regardless of the tier of your weapon, be it wood or diamond, you’ll get the same flat amount of bonus damage from the Smite enchantment. Here are the figures laid out for clarity:

  • Smite Level 1 = 1.25 Hearts of bonus damage
  • Smite Level 2 = 2.5 Hearts of bonus damage
  • Smite Level 3 = 3.75 Hearts of bonus damage
  • Smite Level 4 = 5 Hearts of bonus damage
  • Smite Level 5 = 6.25 Hearts of bonus damage

Enchantments That Are Incompatible With Smite

While it’s certainly possible to enhance a sword or axe with multiple enchantments, there are some that aren’t compatible with Smite. Here are all of the enchantments that can’t be put onto a sword or axe that’s already enchanted with Smite:

  • Bane of Arthropods (sword and axe enchantment that increases damage against Spiders and other invertebrate enemies)
  • Cleaving (axe-only enchantment that increases general damage and shield-stunning power)
  • Sharpness (sword and axe enchantment that increases general damage)

Should You Enchant a Sword or an Axe?

This decision heavily depends on which version of the game you’re playing. In the Java Edition of Minecraft, axes have higher base damage. While, in the Bedrock Edition, swords have higher base damage.

To give you a clear comparison, in the Java Edition, a Wooden Sword has a base damage stat of 4, whereas, in the Bedrock Edition, it has 4.75. However, axes are given the opposite treatment. In the Java Edition, a Wooden Axe has a base damage stat of 7, although, its Bedrock Edition counterpart only has 3.

Therefore, if you’re playing the Java Edition of the game, you should use an axe for combat, or, if you’re playing the Bedrock Edition, you should use a sword for battle. Choosing wisely will let you enchant the best weapon for the jobs of smiting undead mobs.
