How to lower car insurance Reddit

I am a 22M new driver. I have had my license for almost 2 years. I am looking for tips to get the rate down. Im getting on average an annual rate between 3.5k to the highest is from Esurance which quoted me $986.11/m. I drive a paid in cash 07 prius with about 173k miles on it. I pay in full to reduce rates but as I am approaching renewal. I have never had an accident, ticket, or violation on my record. Not even a parking ticket. I had one glass claim due to some truck lobbing a huge chunk of ice on my car and driving off.

Additional info: I did not go to driving school. I just studied and practiced as an adult before attempting the road exam. I drive around 13k miles annually. I live in a major city in Massachusetts. My current insurance is 100/300/100. I only carry liability and glass coverage. I drive the speed limit pretty much exclusively, and try to be as passive as I can to avoid an accident. My parents didn't want me on their insurance so I am on my own. I'm currently with GEICO which was the lowest due to the covid 15% off thing last year, but now they want 3.7k for another year.

What can I do to lower my car insurance rate?

Right now I lease a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, I pay about $400/mo for the insurance (Allstate)and about $531/month for the car lease. I’m 24 and have never been in an accident. Though I did get a speeding ticket, I took a operator re-education course. Is there anything I can do to lower my rate? I live in Connecticut. This is almost $1k a month.

Edit: So, an update, i got a quote and switched to geico and got my insurance cut in half, only about roughly $200/mo

As for the Car Lease payment, the reason this month it apparently went up to $531 is because i misread it, apparently every new year i have to pay an additional $331 on top of the monthly payments of 200.... and i was confused about that. Apparently its only a one time thing per year, not a per month... so my car lease is still only $200, that whole $300 thing was just a huge scare.

Please give me some advice. I have 3 full coverage cars and 1 liability and pay 450 month.

2016 Lexus 2018 maxima 2015 Nissan Titan 2011 Corolla liability.

I use a local agent. Since it just renewed for the 6 months should I go back to agent to find better deal or use an online site???!

I’m getting quoted $400-500/ month on car insurance depending on the car model. Mostly Toyotas, Hondas, Mazda etc. I also checked BMW and Audi and they’re quoting me closer to $380-$400 on them where as Toyotas are in the $500 range. I used an insurance broker.

I’m 30, live in Toronto and have my G license. Never owned a car or had history of car insurance. Is my only choice to suck it up and pay this amount and build history?

Currently insured with RACV. We pay around $4.2k per year for 3x building insurance and 2x car insurance policies.

I have to call them today to ask about getting another insurance policy and want to get a better rate than their crappy 10% multi policy discount.

Every time I ask they say it’s the best they can do and when I tell them I’ve got better quotes from other insurers they say ‘but it’s not a comparable product because we give you choice of repairer etc’. I’ve politely threatened to take all of our policies elsewhere and they tell me ‘okay that’s fine.’

I quite like dealing RACV otherwise so I don’t really want to change and it’s a bit of a hassle getting quotes and changing over 5 policies but I’m kind of thinking I might have to if they don’t budge.

Any tips or advice welcome!

Hi all,

Planning on buying my first car (new from dealer as the used market sucks). I used a lot of online tools to estimate monthly car insurance and they all seem absolutely insane. $300+ / month for all of them! Is there something I am doing wrong?

Info about me: 22 year old male. Had a license since 16, insured as a secondary driver since 17. Got my G when I was 18. No tickets no accidents. Planning on putting winters on the new car. Probably gonna do 20k kms / year on the new car. I live very close to Orangeville, which I assumed would be good for insurance because I'm out of the GTA, but apparently not.

At this point I have no idea if people are paying this much for insurance. Is it this high just because of my age? Even trying to increase the deductibles doesn't change the quoted rates much. Any ideas?

To give context, I'm a twenty one year old male with two speeding tickets and an at fault accident under my belt (rear ended somebody at the end of December)

I need a car and I'm looking to purchase one tomorrow, I had Progressive give me a 6 month quote for $4095 paid up front. Is there anything I can do to lower that in the near future, I may be able to put off getting a car for a few weeks if it means I can do something to appear more favorable for insurance companies.

I’m going to be 22 years old in November, I currently own a 2011 Mustang GT that’s in my name and fully paid for. I live in Georgia in the Metro Atlanta area. My insurance was $362 and now my policy has renewed so it’ll be $384 and i’m with Geico. I’ve never had any accidents or tickets. I knew going into this that buying a V8 sports car at a young age would mean I pay a lot for insurance, however is there anyway I can lower my insurance?

Right now I'm driving a 2006 Nissan Altima, paying $220 a month car payment and $240 a month car insurance with Progressive. I'm a 19 year old driver with one minor accident on his record but no points on my license (took a driver's education course to take the points off). I feel like this rate is ridiculous. Is there anyway to get a lower rate? I've gotten quotes from Geico and State Farm and both would be more. I live in New York state if that helps.
