How to play james bond card game

Card games are an integral component of James Bond movies. The world-renowned secret agent played Baccarat in 1962's Dr. No and has been depicted in scenes involving high-stakes card games ever since. With that in mind, it's not surprising that there are a few card games named after Agent 007. Learn how to play the James Bond card game using a standard deck of cards and discover a few other card games with a 007 theme.

The James Bond card game is a fast-paced game played with a standard 52-card deck of playing cards. The game involves two to four players racing to get multiple sets of matching cards before their opponents. James Bond is a great family card game that is appropriate (and fun!) for preschoolers through adults.

James Bond is a relatively easy game to set up and play. Winning requires speed and memory. Follow these steps to get started:

    1. Shuffle a standard deck of 52 cards thoroughly. Be sure to remove the Joker cards.
    2. Deal all but four cards from the deck to each player. The number of cards each player gets varies based on the number of people playing.
      • 2 players - 24 cards per player
      • 3 players - 16 cards per player
      • 4 players - 12 cards per player
    3. Deal the remaining four cards face up in the middle of the table where they are easily accessible to both players.
    4. Each player should divide their cards evenly into stacks of four face-down cards. These stacks of cards are called "books."

Once the cards have been dealt and the playing area set up, it's time for the game to begin. The goal is to end up with cards of the same number or face in each book. Players don't take turns in this game, so it's a good idea to set a timer countdown to alert everyone when it's time to start.

    1. When the game begins, each player picks up one of their books (stacks of cards) and compares it to the cards in the middle.
    2. The goal is to take cards from the middle that will help the player get all of the same number or face in the book they are holding.
    3. When a player takes a card from the four in the middle, they must replace it with a card from the book in their hand before taking any other action.
    4. As soon as a player places a card face-up in the middle of the table as a swap, it is fair game for other players to snag.
    5. Players can set one book down and pick up another book to look for more moves. While a player is looking for moves for the book they are holding, the other books must remain face down on the table.
    6. The first player to achieve the goal of having matching cards in all of their books is the winner.

Top Trumps is a card game that allows kids and adults alike to have a great time while engaging with critical thinking and basic mathematics. Top Trumps has been a best-selling card game franchise in England for decades. It is available in a James Bond 007 limited edition version with character cards that not only are fun to play with but that also make great memorabilia items for James Bond enthusiasts.

The James Bond 007 Edition of Top Trumps features cards highlighting 30 of the most memorable characters from the James Bond movies made between 1962 and 2020. Each card has statistics about the character that it represents. The goal is to accumulate all of the cards by "trumping" other players. You can play with two or more people. The game is available from Amazon for about $12.

    1. Shuffle the cards and deal evenly between all players.
    2. Decide who is going first.
    3. Have each player draw one card from their own stack of cards.
    4. The first player reads a statistic listed on the card they just drew.
    5. One by one, the players declare the value of the declared statistic for the character on their selected card.
    6. The player with the highest value for the chosen statistic takes all the cards.
    7. Repeat until one player has all the cards, which means they win the game.

In 1995, the release of the James Bond movie GoldenEye coincided with the height of the mid-90s collectible card game (CCG) craze. Out of this frenzy, the ill-fated James Bond CCG was born. A total of 217 unique cards were printed featuring characters from all the James Bond movies. Unfortunately, many of the most common cards were plagued by misprints, typos, and alignment issues. These issues in manufacturing made the already boring game even more difficult to play, and the James Bond CCG was out of print by 1996.

    • You can sometimes purchase these cards or booster packs from eBay or other marketplaces for used goods.
    • Rather than being used to play a game, the original cards are collector's items of interest to only the most dedicated Bond fans.
    • A few fans have gone so far as to create their own versions of the game with new rules and independently produced cards.

Whether you're a fan of James Bond movies or books or are just an avid card player, you're sure to enjoy playing one of the James Bond card games described above. Who knows? You just might get hooked on these simple card games and start playing regularly. After all, sitting down and enjoying a fun card game with friends and family is a great way to spend time and bond with your favorite people!

52 card deck; two to four players

    Deal

The number of cards dealt depends on the number of players.  In a two player game, each player is dealt 24 cards. In a three player game, each player is dealt 16 cards.  In a four player game, each player is dealt 12 cards.

There will always be four cards left after a deal.  These cards are placed face up in the middle.

The players will put their cards into face down piles of four cards each.

    Objective

The object of the game is to get each of your piles to have four matching cards in rank.  Cards can be swapped from a pile with a card from the middle.

    Game Play

A countdown from three will start the game as players will play as fast as possible without taking turns.

Players will pick a pile to look at and make a swap with a middle card if wanted.  When making a card swap, a card from a player’s hand must be laid down in the middle before taking a card.

Only one card can be swapped at a time.  Players can move between piles in any order, and as fast as wanted, but only one pile can be in hand at a time.

    Winning

The game ends when a player has four of a kind in every pile and announces “James Bond.”

The winner shows all their piles to prove they have won.

“James Bond” is an easy, fast-paced card game typically played with 2-4 people. It’s a family-friendly game great for children 4 years and older. Create an even number of 4-card piles per player, and swap cards consistently with those in the middle to get 4 of a kind in each pile. If you are the first player to match 4 of a kind for each pile in your hand, you win the game! When this happens, shout “James Bond!” to declare your victory.

    1. 1

Shuffle the cards thoroughly and remove the Jokers. The Jokers are not needed when playing James Bond, so you can take both out and set them aside. Then, split the deck into 2 sections. Grip each section in 1 hand, and gently bend each half of the deck. Release the cards so they restack into 1 pile one-by-one. This merges the cards back into 1 deck.[1] X Research source Go to source

      • Shuffle the cards 1-3 times until you feel they are mixed up enough.

    2. 2

Deal the cards so each player has the same number of 4-card piles. Deal the cards into even stacks, based on the number of players. If you are playing with 2 people, create 6 piles. If you are playing with 3 people, each player should have 4 piles. Keep the cards face-down so the other players cannot see them.[2] X Research source Go to source

      • You can play with more people, as long as each player has the same number of piles.

    3. 3

Arrange 4 cards face-up in the middle of the table. After each player has their piles in front of them, flip over 4 cards in the middle of the table. Keep the cards in a neat row so they are easy to grab when the game starts.[3] X Research source Go to source

      • Ensure each player can see the front of the card.

    4. 4

Say "Go" to start the game! If you’d like, you can start off by counting down from 3 and then saying "Go!" You can also simply blurt out "Go!" when you want to begin.[4] X Research source Go to source

      • In James Bond, every player starts at the same time as opposed to taking turns.

    1. 1

Try to get 4 of a kind in each of your piles to win the game. To play James Bond, swap the cards in your piles with the cards in the middle until you get 4 of a kind. The first person to get 4 of a kind in each hand is the winner, so race against the other players to see who can match their cards the fastest.

      • You also are competing against the other players for the cards in the middle. They may want the same cards as you, so try to play as quickly as you can!

    2. 2

Choose 1 of your piles to search through for a match. Grab any stack of cards you like, and look at all 4 of them. Note whether or not the cards in the center are the same as the cards in your hand. Do not look at 2 stacks of cards at the same time, as this is considered cheating.[5] X Research source Go to source

      • Perhaps the cards in the middle are a 4, 2, Ace, and 10 and the cards in your hand are a 5, 7, Ace, and 3. In this case, make a note of the Ace in both your pile and the center of the table.

    3. 3

Swap 1 card in your hand for 1 card on the table to work on your set of 4. If 1 of the cards in the center is the same as the card in your hand, lay down another card and pick up the card you’d like. Do this repetitively every time you find a card on the table that matches 1 in your hand. Be sure you only exchange 1 card at a time.[6] X Research source Go to source

      • For example, if you have an Ace in your hand and there’s an Ace on the table, lay down another card in your hand and put the Ace card on the table in your pile. You'd ultimately want 4 Aces in that pile.
      • Remember that you're not allowed to swap more than 1 card at a time.

    4. 4

Move on to another one of your piles if you can't find any matches. Continue picking up and putting down piles in search of matching cards. If there is no matching card, put the pile face-down and move on to the next pile. You can go down the line, or you can pick piles in whatever order you’d like.[7] X Research source Go to source

      • For example, if the cards in the middle are a 4, 2, Ace, and 10 and the cards in your hand are a Jack, 3, 7, and 8, put down the pile and try another one.
      • Try to keep track of what cards are in which piles. This way, you can quickly find your matches and complete each set of 4.

    1. 1

Continue swapping cards until you get 4 of a kind in each stack. The game continues until 1 player has 4 of a kind in all of their piles. If you don't need any of the cards that are in the middle of the table, you may need to wait until someone plays a card that you can use.[8] X Research source Go to source

    2. 2

Yell out "James Bond!" when you collect 4 of a kind in each stack. Do this as soon as you notice you have all piles with 4 of a kind. The first person who shouts out "James Bond!" is the winner. At this point, the game is over and the other players must stop drawing cards.[9] X Research source Go to source

    3. 3

Show your cards to the other players to prove your victory. Flip all of your cards over one at a time to show each set of 4. If you say "James Bond" without having the appropriate cards, you are technically not the winner and gameplay resumes.[10] X Research source Go to source

      • This way, you prove that you won the game fairly without cheating.
