FUEL FILTER/FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR Removal (Cherokee & Wrangler) 1. Fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator is mounted in gasket on top of fuel pump module. Fuel pump module is located on top of fuel tank. See Fig. 28 . 2. Manufacturer recommends removing fuel tank for access to fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. See FUEL TANK . Ensure area around fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump module is clean. 3. Note direction of fuel supply line in relation to fuel tank. Remove fuel supply line from fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. Remove retainer clamp from top of fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. See Fig. 29 . Discard retaining clamp. 4. Using 2 screwdrivers, pry fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator from gasket on fuel pump module. Discard gasket. Ensure 2 "O" rings are still on fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator fuel inlet tube. See Fig. 30 . If lower "O" ring is not on fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator fuel inlet tube, remove "O" ring from fuel inlet passage on fuel pump module. Back by the tank but I highly doubt that is the issue. I would check the fuel pressure checked first.

Look for vacuum leaks and check the idle control motor for sticking.

You may want to post a pic of it. I don't know off hand what style it is exactly. All of them have tabs that have to be released to get them over the llip on the nipple.
