2005 SE, neighbors car. She took it on a long trip with trunk loaded and tied open. The trunk courtesy light was removed to keep it from shining the whole time. During the trip, and now also, the interior courtesy lights, exterior adjustable mirrors, and electric windows didn't, and still don't work. Trunk light bulb is good and has been put back in, but it is not receving power.

# 30 fuse (for mirrors and interior lights) is good, and there is power to the fuse.

Haven't seen any fuse or relay marked for electric windows.

Any ideas to correct this situation? I think it may be a connection or relay somewhere that is the problem, but don't know where to check. (The car is not mine, and I'm not the least bit familiar with it)

Everything was working before this whole trip thing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First make sure the dimmer switch isn't all the way down.

Try #10 as well. It's a 30A circuit breaker, so you might be able to reset it.

I think the only other thing you can try is swapping/replacing the accessory relay (#1). If not, all those things have the battery saver relay in common. Unfortunately that relay is not user-replacable, so you would have to replace the SJB.

I checked your vehicle on AbscoHost and fuse # 26 controls that circuit on your car. On my neighbors 2005, #30 fuse controls the comparable circuit. So I don't think #26 or 28 will help on her car.

1) Is #10 under the dash or under the hood? And what is procedure to reset?

2) Same questions for #1 accessory relay.

3)Where is dimmer switch? Again, not my car, know nothing about it, and I've never had a Taurus.

4)Dimmer probably doesn't affect trunk light, which also is not receiving power.

(At this time the car is over a mile away, so I can't run out and look!)

This has happened to me a few times too. Whenever I take the bulb out for the trunk light, the fuse for the dome light, windows, and mirrors blows. Double check that you checked the right fuse because that sounds like its the problem. The socket for the trunk light is strange and when you pull the bulb without disconnecting the battery the fuse blows.

The fuses and relay are in the junction box under the dash (near the brake pedal). Is that where you checked the #30 fuse?

CB should have a little button sticking out if it tripped. Just push it back in.

Dimmer switch is the scroll dial right next to the headlight knob. All the way down shuts off the lights, and all the way up keeps them on, so you want it in the middle somewhere.

Yes, dimmer probably doesn't affect the trunk light but it might be the cause for the other lights to be out.

It's fixed now

Thanks to all for your help.

Neighbor took the car in to her regular mechanic. It turned out to be the #30 fuse was bad. The strange thing is I had checked and tested that fuse with a VOM and it showed continuity.

I guess it is just a miracle!

Sometimes fuses don't completely blow. They'll show continuity, but they won't be able to handle a load or will blow completely when you apply a load again. That's why I always take out suspect fuses and look at the element to see if there's any melting or burning if the fuse has voltage but the device still doesn't work.

I was thinking of doing the LED trunk lights too, on another forum, but thanks for this headsup. Thats so weird, why it blows when the trunk light is removed. I'll remember that, disconnect the battery when doing that.
