Tessa Young and Hardin Scott are back at it again in After Ever Happy, the fourth movie in the After franchise which is playing in select theaters this week. And by “it,” we mean, of course, an explosive, unhealthy, toxic relationship. But damn if it isn’t romantic! Based on the series of romance novels by Anna Todd—which are in turn based on One Direction Wattpad fanfiction—the After series stars Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as two young, star-crossed lovers whose relationship consists of fighting, making up, and having sex. In After Ever Happy, both Tessa (Langford) and Hardin (Fiennes Tiffin) will face new hardships stemming from family drama. Will they be able to find comfort in each other? These movies may be predictable, but they’re also highly addictive. Here’s what you need to know about where to watch After Ever Happy, including when to expect After Ever Happy on streaming, and our best guess at the After 4 Netflix release date. WHERE TO WATCH AFTER EVER HAPPY:After Ever Happy is playing in select U.S. theaters on two days only: Wednesday, September 7, and Thursday, September 8, via Fathom Events special screenings. You can pre-order the movie now for $24.99 on Apple TV+. A digital release date for After Ever Happy has not yet been announced. But given the fact that the film is only in theaters for two days, we have a feeling After Ever Happy will be on video-on-demand very soon—likely before the end of the month. The previous film in the franchise, After We Fell, was released on VOD two-and-a-half weeks after the movie opened in theaters. Based on that timeline, we can predict that After Ever Happy will be available to purchase on digital platforms like Amazon Prime, iTunes, and more around the last week of September 2022. WHEN WILL AFTER EVER HAPPY BE ON NETFLIX?An After Ever Happy Netflix release date has not yet been announced. But here’s what we know based on the Netflix release of the previous After movies. After opened in theaters on April 12, 2019 and was released on Netflix in October 2019. After We Collided was released simultaneously in theaters and VOD on October 23, 2020 (due to the pandemic) and arrived on Netflix on December 22, 2020. Then the third film in the franchise, After We Fell, opened in theaters on September 30, 2021 and was released on Netflix on January 17, 2022. Based on all of this, we can guess that After Ever Happy will be on Netflix about three and a half months after opening in theaters, which would be around early January 2023, which would follow the same Netflix release pattern as the third film. That said, if After Ever Happy follows the Netflix release pattern of the first film, you’ll have to wait a bit longer—until March or April 2023. Our best guess is that After Ever Happy will be on Netflix sometime in January 2023. We’ll have to wait and see. IS AFTER, AFTER WE COLLIDED, AND AFTER WE FELL ON NETFLIX?Yes! Although the movies in the franchise have all received less than stellar reviews, the movie franchise continues to do well, thanks in part to it coming to Netflix in many regions in a timely fashion. Based on the novels by Anna Todd, the After movies are often heavily criticized because of their poor screenplays and sometimes atrocious acting. Despite this, they are profitable and popular in many parts of the globe. A fourth movie, following the three subsequent movies released annually since 2019, is due to be released in theaters on September 7th, 2022, after premiering in London in August 2022. Beyond a fourth movie, Castille Landon teased that there may be other works telling Variety in August 2021, “I’m working on some other projects in the “After” universe and I’ll keep that vague.” A fifth movie has since been confirmed and is currently in development with the entry being called After Everything. What to expect from After Ever HappyCastille Landon is back for directing duties on the fourth entry with Sharon Soboil returning for writing duties. The cast confirmed returning for the fourth movie includes Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Josephine Langford, Carter Jenkins, Louise Lombard, Rob Estes, Kiana Madeira, and Chance Perdomo. When and will After Ever Happy be on Netflix?While there’s been no official confirmation (there hasn’t been in advance for previous movies either) we expect it to come to Netflix, albeit it won’t be a worldwide release. Although available on Netflix and often labeled a Netflix Original, the movie is actually released by Voltage Pictures. Voltage Pictures is a US distribution company. Over the past two movies, only a select handful of regions have received After movies, either sold elsewhere or unavailable in other countries. Regions that are expected to receive After Ever Happy either in 2022 or 2023 include:
We’re not expecting all regions to receive After Ever Happy at the same time either. For the past two films, we’ve seen Netflix in Asia receive the movie first before hitting the US and Canada much later. Netflix US and Canada received After We Fell significantly later than Asia, with most regions getting the movie in October 2021, while the US had to wait until mid-January 2022. As a rough estimate, those in Asia should receive the new movie by the close of 2022 while those in US and Canada may need to wait until early 2023. Amazon will carry After Ever Happy in other regionsThe past two movies have been released on Amazon Prime Video in several locations, including the United Kingdom and France. That will once again be the case going into the fourth movie and that’s despite the original movie, After, streaming in the UK as of September 2022. Back in August 2021, Prime Video secured the rights to both After We Fell and After Ever Happy. Amazon Prime Video is debuting the movie in September 2022.
