Bike the West & America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride continues to promote the Lake Tahoe Bikeway, in conjunction with the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. Dedicated to enhance bicycling safety, facilities and to promote the building and connecting existing bike lanes around Lake Tahoe and to develop an alternative non-motorized transportation corridor to help protect Lake Tahoe’s environment. $5 of your registration fee will be donated to fund the "Bike Safe Lake Tahoe" Bicycle Safety Campaign. The 72-mile America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride circumnavigates the highways clockwise around Lake Tahoe in both Nevada and California. It includes a challenging 800 foot climb to a rest stop overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000 foot climb to Spooner Junction. There are also many short rolling ascents and descents totaling over 4,024 vertical feet of elevation gain! The altitude ranges between 6,300 feet and 7,100 feet above sea level and the ride is recommended for conditioned recreational bicyclist, not for beginners. Participants must be at least 14 years of age (please, no children on bike carriers or trailers) and must be experienced in riding roadways.

Most Mileage - Beautiful & Historic Century

For the more conditioned bicyclist and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America’s "Team In Training" participants, a full 100-mile Century is offered adding an out and back on Highway 89/ Bike Trail to visit historic Truckee, California, before continuing around Lake Tahoe.  This century option adds approximately 600 more vertical feet of elevation gain (4924 vertical feet).

Fully Supported Ride Options:

Rest Stops with a great selection of food and beverage are offered overlooking Emerald Bay, Tahoe City, Truckee (for century riders), Kings Beach (lunch), a water stop at Half Spooner and at Spooner Junction. Drop bags will be provided at the first three rest stops if you chose to discard clothing.  Please include your Pull-Tag Drop Bag Number from your Event Bib Number in your Drop Bag and write your name and number on the drop bag and leave with rest stop staff for them to return it to the finish.

First Aid Medical stations will be provided by Barton Health Care, Douglas County Sheriff Search & Rescue, Carson City Sheriff Search & Rescue and standby ambulance service provided by North Tahoe Fire Protection District.

Technical Support (Bike Mechanics) are stationed at the start-finish, rest stops and along the course provided by Watta Bike Lake Tahoe, Olympic Bike Shop, Paco’s Bike Shop, BlueZone Sports & Shoreline of Tahoe.  SAG Vans and Motorcycle SAG, can also assist with flat tires and minor mechanical issues.

SAG transport service is also provided to transport participants forward on the course and may be subject to delayed returns and final course sweep if one requires transport to the Finish.  Consult your course map / info for on course assistance.

California Highway Patrol and Nevada State Police will assist with event traffic control and coordinate emergency services.   Please Share the Road and Ride Responsibly!

Cut-off times are established at various points and at each rest stop where ride organizers reserve the right to ask "behind time" participants to sag forward.

A variety of nonprofit organizations manage and sponsor the Rest Stops and other services on the course to include members of:  The Tahoe Amateur Radio Association, Sierra at Tahoe Education Foundation, Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Rite of Passage, Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, Tahoe Blue Riders Motorcycle Club, Barton Health / Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, Douglas County Sheriff Explorers and others.

America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride is limited to the first 3000 pre-registered riders. Please register now. Pre-registered rider check-in will take place from 12 noon until 8:00pm, Saturday, June 4, 2022, at TAHOE SPORTS LTD, located in the Village Shopping Center at Highway 50 & Heavenly Village Way, in South Lake Tahoe, two stop lights from the Start-Finish Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on the California side.

Please bring a copy of your event registration confirmation letter and legal ID…

All participants will be required to sign an accident and release of liability waiver upon check-in.  The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition will host a secure Bike Valet area should you ride your bike to event check in.

All pre-registered participants will receive an America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride Lake Tahoe Welcome Packet / NDOT Goodie Bag with offers and coupons as well as a custom event long sleeve T-Shirt, event Water bottle, event Helmet Sticker, Wrist Band and Event Number and more... Plus, A complimentary bicycle safety inspection is offered during this check-in period. Pre-registered rider check-in will reopen at 5:00am, on Sunday, June 5, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Parking Lot C. Late or Same Day Registration may be available, based on No Shows (Please review FAQ).  Free parking is available in all other Lots as well as in the Parking Garage (Check your roof rack space). It is recommended that you enter the back parking lots from Lake Parkway (Norm Woods Blvd.) across from Edgewood Golf Resort.

Start Times

All 100-mile Century riders have four 15-minute start windows from 6:00am to 7:00am.

All 72-mile riders have two 15-minute start windows from 7:00am to 7:30am. You must indicate your start time preference on your registration application, based on your ride option, or you will be assigned the earliest start window for your ride option

Road Closure: Northbound HWY 89, Emerald Bay Road:

Northbound Hwy. 89 - Emerald Bay Road will experience a 2 Hour Traffic Delay administered by the California Highway Patrol,  just north of Camp Richardson Resort at Baldwin Beach Road.  Vehicle Traffic and unregistered bicyclists will be stopped and delayed from accessing Northbound Hwy. 89 from 6:30am to 8:30am, the morning of the ride on Sunday, June 5, 2022. This road closure / delay will be enforced by the Eldorado County Sheriff's Department.  Southbound Hwy. 89 traffic lane will remain open at all times.

After Ride Pool Party

The ride features an After Ride Pool Party with a delicious meal and live band offered in the Finish Line at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Pool. This is included with your entry fees. Additional after-ride party meals are available to purchase for guests. You must present your Pull Tag Meal Ticket from  your event number for entrance. 

Event photos will also be available from Captivating Sports Photos who will take your pictures on the course. These photos will be FREE to download compliments of Bike the West. The link for download will be shared within a few days after the event. How difficult is it to bike around Lake Tahoe?

The ride around Lake Tahoe is a big circle, so you can pick your spot and start riding and end up where you started 72 miles later. It takes the average strong rider at least five to six hours to make the circuit, but plan on taking all day and stopping a few times along the route.

How long does it take to ride a bike across the US?

By bike, most cyclists will take between two and four months, depending on how many miles a day they want to ride.
