Q: How do I find local yard sales?

Craigslist - Great for All Local Sales Thats because people can easily add sales to it, and its updated constantly. You can find yard sales near you on Craigslist by looking at your city page and then clicking on garage sales in the Sales section.

This is a map of all the yard sales and garage sales that were advertised in both Thursday's and Friday's Daily News. To be included in the map next week, you can click here to place your ad or call our Classified Department at (270) 783-3232.

To use map: Click on a marker on the map for details about the yard sale. To view all markers, use arrows on map or click and hold mouse button to drag map location. Use + or - control buttons on map to zoom in or out.

If the marker is not on a specific street that you can verify by name, it is not in the Google maps database and may not be accurate.

Maps will be updated on Thursdays by 10:00 a.m. for the upcoming weekend.

Important Guidelines and Requirements

Yard sales will only be permitted one-weekend of each quarter during the year. Yard sales are not allowed at any other time of the year. Yard sale permits are NOT required!
Only one double-faced sign, not to exceed six (6) square feet in area on any one side, shall be permitted on the property where such sale is located. Such a sign may be posted only on the day of the sale. Signs are NOT permitted on City light poles, telephone poles or vehicles.
Garage or yard sale shall mean any event where items of personal property owned, utilized, or maintained by the occupants of the premises, other than a licensed commercial business, is to be offered for sale to the general public. This shall include garage, patio, and other similar conducted sales.
Only the seller’s personal property may be sold at a garage or yard sale. New merchandise, items acquired or consigned for the purpose of resale, may not be sold at a garage or yard sale.
Garage or yard sales are only allowed on properties owned and permitted for residential use.
All garage or yard sale related activities shall only be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
If rainy weather conditions exist on either Friday or Saturday of the designated weekend, garage or yard sales may be conducted on the following consecutive Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This upcoming Saturday and Sunday the City of Santa Ana is permitting garage and yard sales on residential properties.

No permit is required to hold a garage or yard sale.
If you are a business or church, you must obtain a Land-use Certificate to conduct an outdoor activity.

Regulations for residential garage sales include

Sales may only occur on Saturday and/or Sunday
Sales may begin at 8:00am and must end at 5:00pm
Items sold may not be displayed on the public sidewalks, parkways, streets or alleys
Items sold must be used goods from your household and not purchased for resale
Signs may not be posted on telephone poles, public street lights, traffic signs, or on any structure in the public right-of-way (Signs posted illegally will be removed and a fine may be mailed to the responsible party)
Signs may be posted one week before the sale weekend
Signs must be taken down one day after the last date of your sale

Persons conducting sales on any unauthorized weekend or violating any of the above regulations will be subject to an administrative fine or a misdemeanor citation.

This is a great app to navigate to yard sales.

This is such a wonderful free app that shows you yard sales in all states in the area you chose. Click on the yard sale to navigate to the sale. There is color codes that you use to use a color to make the different days different colors. You can check mark or make invisible after you find the sale. The only problems are when the person marks the location wrong or leaves out part of address. In that case we can make the sale as being in the wrong location. They have thought of everything! We have fun all over the US when we are visiting our family by finding sales nearby!

We’ve use Yard Sale Treasure Map for three years. This is third year we’ve felt it worth the subscription. Subscription adds multiple features that make our search for treasures a breeze.
This year we were having trouble linking both phones to the subscription. Developer was very responsive to our Facebook contact (and also replied to our website contact form entry). We sent screenshots of problem and he pointed us to a solution. He plans to change the app and possibly update documentation to help users who are legally attempting to link devices to the subscriptions. He’s really working to make this the premier yard sale app on the App Store.

Beyond frustrated

I paid my dues. The app worked well in the past but suddenly stopped. I couldn’t choose and switch days, couldn’t add the ads from the local newspaper, couldn’t sync it with my iPhone and worst of all it wouldn’t optimize my garage sale route. None of the features worked, OK these things happen so I tried contacting yard sale developers but unfortunately if you don’t have Facebook you can’t. Now that I wrote a comment they did reach out and fixed the contact page so you are able to contact them without Facebook. Hooray, so I reached out now through the new contact page and hoping for the best.
