Spending money is much more enjoyable when you get rewarded for it, which is why I always use receipt apps when I’m out shopping. Receipt-scanning apps are pretty straightforward, too. You scan receipts for points or rewards and then redeem them for online gift cards, actual cash, or other perks.

You can double-dip with most of these apps, and you can also use manufacturer coupons, too. There are a couple of exceptions, though, but I’ll let you know which ones have restrictions.

I’ve covered the best (totally legit) receipt apps out there so you can keep shopping and saving.

Download the KCL app for more money-saving tips, deals, and coupons.

1. Earn digital gift cards for purchases through Fetch Rewards.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

Earn cash back two ways with Fetch Rewards:

  1. For scanning any eligible receipt (including e-receipts).
  2. For purchasing eligible products, which you’ll find right on the Fetch Rewards home screen. Mostly they are grocery, but oddly enough you’ll see magazine subscriptions, too.

Accumulate at least 3,000 points ($3) and cash out to earn gift cards to retailers like Amazon and Target.

2. Get freebies as a new member with TopCashback.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

TopCashBack pays you for purchases made online through select merchants.

TopCashback also offers freebies for new members — like Clorox disinfecting wipes, drink tumblers, or Neutrogena makeup remover wipes. Offers vary, but we’ll always let you know what the newest one is on our TopCashback deals page.

You can have as many TopCashback accounts per household as you want. If you’re an existing member, then tell your partner, mom or dad, roommate, or anyone else in your house to sign up to get more freebies.

Cash back goes into your account within a week, but you can’t cash out until the retailer’s return policy period is over. Once that happens, you’ll see what money you can withdraw to your bank account, PayPal account, Virtual Visa Prepaid Card, or as a gift card to Amazon, Walmart, Target and Disney. (Any of these gift cards can come with a 5% bonus, too!)

Before you read on, be sure to bookmark the KCL Freebies Deals page to stay informed about all the deals.

3. Tap cashback offers in your Ibotta app before you make purchases.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

You can link store loyalty cards to Ibotta, which means you don’t have to scan your receipt. But you won’t get cash back if you don’t select your offers in the app before you shop. So don’t forget!

Otherwise, it’s the usual drill. Shop, tap the products in Ibotta that match what you bought, scan your receipt. Done. You can cash out through PayPal, direct deposit, or a gift card.

Our Ibotta coupons page is great for keeping up with the latest offers.

4. Get cash back with the Coupons.com app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

The Coupons.com app doesn’t just have digital and printable coupons; it also has cash-back offers. Same drill as with Ibotta: you tap the offers and then scan your receipt, or you can link your store loyalty card. The only difference is you don’t have to tap offers before if you have the store loyalty card. You can still scan your receipt.

Cashing out it super easy, too. There’s no minimum cash-out balance. If you want your $1 back immediately, just tap it in the app and it goes into your PayPal account.

5. Choose your own offers with Checkout51.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

Checkout51 works just like the other receipt apps; tap the offers and scan your receipt through the app.

But, the offers aren’t store specific. You can purchase them anywhere, unlike the other apps which are specific to the store. Once your account balance reaches $20, you can cash out; however, you have to choose how you want to get paid: PayPal, e-gift card, or mailed paper check, because Checkout51 will not automatically send your money. We’ll tell you which offers are the best on our Checkout51 deals page.

One of the best things about Checkout51 is their “Choose Your Own Offer,” which is typically $0.25-$0.50 off an item. I like to use my offer for things like bananas, which I can typically find for under $0.25, so I can get them totally free.

You can’t stack some manufacturer coupons with certain products on Checkout51, though, which is a total bummer. So read the conditions carefully before you use this app.

6. Get in-store cash-back offers with the Rakuten app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

Yes, you can get cash back with Rakuten for both online shopping and in-store purchases if you download their app.

I’ll cover in-store cash back here. This is how it works:

While you’re shopping in a qualifying store, tap on the offer you’d like to take advantage of. The app will ask you to link your credit or debit card to the offer. Use that same card to pay for the item and you get your cash back offer added to your Rakuten account. This can take a few hours or days depending on when the store confirms your purchase. Rakuten sends you an email letting you know your cash back is in your account.

You can cash out once your account reaches at least $5. Payments come in a paper check or to your PayPal account, according to the quarterly Rakuten payment schedule.

7. Skip scanning your receipt with the Drop app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

The Drop app is similar to Fetch Rewards in that you earn points and can redeem them for digital gift cards from Amazon, Target, etc. The minimum you need to earn to cash out is $25.

The difference is that with Drop, you link up your credit or debit card to the app and earn “Drop” points (1,000 points equals $1) for your qualifying purchases at partner stores — no scanning required afterward. Just tap the offer, shop, and get rewards points.

8. Redeem your points for actual cash with the Dosh app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

Dosh connects to your credit or debit card so you can earn points for shopping or dining out at thousands of retailers and restaurants. You download the app and link your credit or debit card or Venmo account in it. Then, you just shop as you normally would or dine out. If any place you buy something from is partnered with Dosh, you get cash back, automatically and immediately into your Dosh account.

You can cash out at $25, and the best part is that you earn actual cash back for your purchases. Just tap your money and transfer it to your PayPal or Venmo, donate it to a charity, or move it to your bank account.

9. Get money for receipts and for walking around with the Shopkick app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

You actually don’t have to scan receipts to earn money with Shopkick, but you’ll get more points (kicks) if you do. If you allow location services in the app, you can earn kicks just for walking into a store. You can also earn for scanning a product in a store without even buying it.

Kicks don’t translate into cash money, but they can be redeemed for e-gift cards or PayPal credits. You can cash out for a $2 gift card with as little as 500 kicks. Shopkick is actually how I earned a free $25 Target gift card.

10. Get cash back when your friends shop with the Fluz app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

The Fluz app pays you to shop if you make a qualified gift card purchase through their app. When you check out at a participating store, you buy a digital gift card for that store through the Fluz app for the exact amount of your total. Then you pay with that digital gift card.

This earns you points, which you redeem for, you guessed it, more gift cards or for cash back in your PayPal or bank account.

Here’s where Fluz gets interesting, though. Once you refer friends, you also earn cash back on their purchases. You’ll also get three vouchers for up to 35% cash back at various brands when you sign up through our link.

So, get busy creating your own shopping network and make some money!

11. Earn random rewards with the CoinOut app— upload your receipt to find out how much you’ll get!

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

With CoinOut, you’ll get a random reward — between $0.01-$0.07 per retail receipt you upload. You can also earn set rewards by shopping through CoinOut for select online merchants who advertise the cash-back amounts you’ll get for making a purchase through CoinOut.

Deposit cash-back earnings to your bank account, or redeem them directly to your bank or gift card with no minimum requirement to cash out. Or, you can cash out via PayPal, but you have to have a minimum of $25.

TIP: KCL reader Suzanne shared taking a better quality image of your receipt can earn you more. It’s true, according to CoinOut, so make sure the receipt information is clear before submitting.

12. Earn cash back and enter sweepstakes for your receipts with the ReceiptPal app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

With ReceiptPal, you’ll need to upload a picture of your receipt — from any type of store or restaurant — to the app. You can also connect ReceiptPal to your email and Amazon accounts to upload e-receipts automatically. For all of these receipts, you earn points that unlock levels containing gift cards for escalating amounts; for example, you can earn a $5 Amazon gift card at level one.

Check this out:

New users receive five digital 100-point cards the day they join — you can fill these cards with e-receipts or scanned paper receipts. Once they’re filled, you’ll unlock points to get gift cards from your favorite retailers, like Amazon.

After your initial five, you get up to three new cards every Sunday at noon — five is the max you can have at any time, so how many you get depends on how many you’ve already filled up.

The value of each receipt varies from about $0.06 to $0.08 each, so a 100-point card is worth about $0.23 to $0.31. Here’s how many points you need to earn to get a gift card:

  • 2,200 points for a $5 gift card
  • 4,000 points for a $10 gift card
  • 9,250 points for a $25 gift card
  • 17,250 points for a $50 gift card
  • 32,250 points for a $100 gift card

You can submit as many receipts as you want each week. Extra receipts you submit earn you entries into sweepstakes — you’ll earn two sweeps entries for every receipt!

13. Earn money on fuel purchases with the TruNow app.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

The TruNow rebate app is a little different because it’s exclusively for gas stations!

TruNow shows you where the cheapest gas is near you and then gives you cash back when you buy gas at that location. All you have to do is scan your receipt after you fill-up.

You can use your rewards toward in-app purchases at full value, or you can take half the value of your rewards and cash out via PayPal. This means if you’ve earned $25, you’ll only receive $12.50 if you cash out through PayPal.

14. Stock up on produce with Makeena.

Apps that give you cash back for receipts

Makeena is for use with healthier grocery choices and offers a ton of rebate offers on produce.

Most of these offers are for organic items, but sometimes there are offers for produce that don’t specify “organic.”

Some Makeena offers are only available for the first 1,000 people to claim, and you need to make your purchase before you can unlock an offer — so don’t dawdle in uploading your receipt. Earn 1,000 Makeena Exclusive Points (redeemable for $1 cash) when you use our referral link to sign up!

Cash out through Venmo or PayPal when you earn at least $20.

KCL has a ton of other produce coupons if these just aren’t enough.
