Fit is Key

A bodysuit is meant to be fitting, and no – that doesn’t mean you have to be thin – it just means that it has to fit RIGHT. A bodysuit that’s too tight, doesn’t cover your boobs (unless it’s a night out look and that’s what you want), or doesn’t sit comfortably on your bottom will not only be unflattering, but very uncomfortable.

Making sure the bodysuit isn’t too tight on your crotch or doesn’t squeeze in your bum is crucial, and also important for your personal hygiene. If it doesn’t sit right on your body, it can also lead to a night of constant adjusting, which is never fun when you want to just look cute.

Have the Right Accessories

Some of our teddies or bodysuits have built-in bras, so you don’t have to feel unsupported while wearing this trend. However, some of our teddies, and many of the bodysuits out now don’t have any sort of support, and some don’t even have coverage!

Most of them don’t allow for a bra to be worn; that being said, showing off your bra is super chic, so go for it! But when going braless is a must, a nipple pad is by far a handy accessory to have, and some body tape wouldn’t hurt either depending on the style you choose.

Choosing a lingerie bodysuit or teddy most often means you’ll have some sort of cotton lining or gusset in the crotch, but what if it doesn’t? Add a seamless panty to the mix; it’s lightweight so it won’t feel uncomfortable, you’ll have no unsightly lines, and you’ll feel much better and safer.

We definitely don’t recommend a basic thong – it might seem like the right choice, but you don’t want to worry about having to adjust all night.

Pair it Well

You can wear a bodysuit with ANYTHING – make it business-worthy with a full coverage style and a pencil skirt, wear it casual with jeans or skinny pants, or balance it out with a high-waisted bottom. Your options are endless, and again, when you focus on the right fit, this look could be flattering for ANY body type.

As always, throwing on a cute vest or jacket will help you feel a bit more covered up if the occasion calls for it. The trend is all about embracing your sexy side, but it’s important to feel comfortable too!

Are you going to try and rock a bodysuit this season? Do you have any other questions about wearing a bodysuit?

That sounds dramatic, but I stand by it. See, the bodysuit I chose to wear (of course for the first time) was not a thong. As I gave myself the once-over before dashing out the door for my date, I discovered that it was giving me visible panty lines. (I could have a whole TED Talk about how being concerned about VPL is a sign of the patriarchy holding me back, but I'll save it for a later date.) Running late with no time to pick out a whole new outfit, I was forced to turn it into a thong myself. That's me trying to gracefully tell the entire internet that I gave myself a wedgie. Because that was the essence of what I did.

I normally go sans underwear when wearing a bodysuit, but a quick Google search of "do you wear underwear with a bodysuit?" while Ubering to my date yielded conflicting results.

I began to question why I would purchase a non-thong bodysuit, but then my internal monologue jumped to wondering about whether or not you're supposed to wear underwear underneath a bodysuit. I know, profound thoughts from a grown woman who, again, intentionally gave herself a wedgie. (Does butt-tuck sound better? Ack, no.) I normally go sans underwear when wearing a bodysuit, but a quick Google search of "do you wear underwear with a bodysuit?" while Ubering to my date yielded conflicting results.

See, the whole point of bodysuits is that they tuck into your clothing easily and seamlessly. Adding underwear to the mix seems like a lot of unnecessary fabric down there, but is it actually necessary? Healthier, even? To get the answers, I turned to a pro.

"Underwear with bodysuits is totally unnecessary and defeats the purpose," exclaims Jené Luciani, undergarment expert and author of The Bra Book. The purpose, here, being to have a seamless, no-line fit. She adds that as long as they have a cotton gusset (or liner for your lady bits), you should be good going commando when wearing your bodysuit. It'll create a breathable, moisture-wicking environment for your vagina, which is important for your vaginal health.

"A cotton gusset is definitely preferred by many women because it keeps you 'fresher' down there and is more breathable, especially if you tend to sweat," she says. "A night out without it likely isn’t going to bother you too much... unless you’re prone to yeast infections," she adds. If your bodysuit doesn't have that little cotton insert or is made out of a non-moisture-wicking material, wearing underwear that is can help prevent issues like yeast infections.

So there you have it. Look for bodysuits with cotton gussets, and please learn from my tale so that you do find yourself tucking your bodysuit into your butt to avoid VPL.

What do you wear under a bodysuit?

Avoid Unnecessary Lines The worst fashion faux pas while wearing a bodysuit is to expose underlying panty lines. For this reason, many people choose to wear a thong or G-string underneath a bodysuit to eliminate this problem. For a guaranteed no-lines look, though, just go sans underwear!

How do you go to the bathroom in a bodysuit?

Our answer is: simply unbutton the snap closures at crotch bottom. The material of the snaps could be metallic or plastic, depending on the fabric weight of the bodysuit. For thinner fabrics, plastic snaps are more comfortable.

How do you comfortably wear a bodysuit?

For aesthetics, some women wear it directly on their skin. Others feel more comfortable wearing it over panties, a g-string or a thong. Be careful, though, to choose a discreet bottom that works in harmony with the cut of the bodysuit. For example, avoid shorties or boxers which cover the buttocks.
