Apple Music App, Free For 90 Days If Wifi Free MusicWith a 90-day free trial for new users, it's hard to miss. Music and video streaming service Apple Music should be familiar to most, and if not, you should at least know its predecessor/cousin/no one knows anymore – iTunes. I guess the best way to put it is that Apple Music is an outgrowth of iTunes, which still exists. Anyway, Apple’s sleek music streaming platform gives you access to 70 million songs, the ability to download your favorite tracks and play them offline, exclusive playlists and live radio, and the ability to listen across all your devices. Now, while their app is free to download, the user should be aware that there are three tiers to Apple Music – Student, Individual, and Family. The Student plan costs $4.99 per month, the Individual plan $9.99 per month, and the Family plan $14.99 per month. New users, however, get a 90-day free trial. Quite generous. And that should give you some time to enjoy offline listening before making any kind of commitment. All plans offer an ad-free experience, the ability to download 100,000 songs to your library, see what your friends are listening to, original shows, concerts, and exclusives, live on-demand radio stations hosted by artists, and more. Amazon Music, Download Music & Listen OfflineIf you have prime membership, you can start listening offline now. We can’t imagine there’s anyone who isn’t privy to eCommerce giant Amazon by now. What you may not know is that they’ve branched out into media, including TV shows, movies, and of course, music. Amazon Music gives you access to over 70 million songs from all the decades, and of course, all the genres, bands, and artists you’ve come to know and love. They’ve got podcasts too. Their app is free to download and is highly rated. If you’ve already got a Prime membership, as many Amazon users do, then you’ll probably love everything included, with ad-free listening, offline listening, unlimited skips, and podcasts. Even without the membership, though, you can still stream music for free, access thousands of stations, stream podcasts, and listen on your favorite device. On Amazon Music, you can also listen to music you’ve purchased on Amazon. Amazon Prime membership, though, costs $119 year. It’s certainly worth it if you find yourself ordering from Amazon often, but if not, there are other options. Amazon Music has two tiers above Prime, with Unlimited and HD. With Unlimited, you get to listen to new releases, stream music videos, and video playlists. Amazon Music Unlimited has a 90-day free trial and costs $7.99 per month after. SoundCloudHas the most content of any platform we know. SoundCloud is probably better known to musicians than the average consumer. Still, major artists, independent artists, and even podcasters use SoundCloud, so if you’re looking for an eclectic mix of audio content, you might just enjoy it. The free app is available on web, iOS, Android, Sonos, Chromecast, and Xbox One. With SoundCloud Go, you get access to an ad-free experience, offline listening, and over 120 million tracks. SoundCloud Go is available for just $4.99 per month. They also have an upper tier in the form of SoundCloud Go+ (at $9.99 per month)u get access to all 150 million+ tracks, premium SoundCloud Go+ tracks, and no previews. PandoraPandora Plus is moderately priced. Pandora is a long-running streaming service that was founded in 2000. They have over 63.5 million users as of 2019. The Pandora app can be downloaded for free and gives you access to personalized stations, the ability to search and play what you want, and unlimited skips. Pandora, like Spotify, also gives you access to podcasts. So, although Pandora gives you the ability to search for artists and songs and listen to them, they are perhaps most known for their Music Genome Project, in which they’ve analyzed music across genres and decades. And you can “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” tracks, so Pandora learns and plays music you will enjoy. Their app is free to download, and you can listen on any device – smartphones, computers, TV, Apple Watch, and voice assistants. Spotify, Listen To Music Without The InternetSpotify probably doesn’t need much of an introduction. They are among the most popular music streaming apps available, and you might be using it already. They are quickly becoming a destination for podcast content as well. Their extensive catalog is near unmatched, or at the very least on par with just about any other streaming app you can name. If there’s something you’re looking for, there’s a good chance they’ve got it. To this point, it’s entirely possible you’ve used it mostly online. When you aren’t connected to WiFi, tracks are greyed out and cannot be selected. To listen to music offline, it is necessary to download tracks. There is a bit of a catch though. While the app itself is free, you cannot download music or podcasts unless you upgrade to Premium for $9.99 month. Deezer, For Offline Music ListeningDeezer is a French founded online music streaming service that gives you access to major label and independent music alike. Even if you haven’t heard of it, it is quite popular, and is often mentioned in the same breath as Spotify, TIDAL, Pandora, and so on. As with Spotify, Deezer allows you to create playlists of your favorite music so you can save and listen later. Their Flow technology gets to know your listening habits after a while, and helps you find more of what you enjoy. Deezer can be used on any device, including your computer, smartphone, tablet, smart TV, or otherwise. Again, as with Spotify, you can download the Deezer app for free and begin using it. Napster, Free Songs Without Wifi For 30 DaysWait, Napster? That thing’s still around? Yes, while it used to be a (illegal) peer-to-peer file sharing network, over the years, it has transformed into a music streaming service, much like the rest. Napster is home to millions of songs, and of course, the app is free to download. Their main claim to fame seems to be their Playlist Maker, which makes the creation of playlists easy. It comes with smart recommendations based on your taste. You can add songs with swipe, personalize your playlist with a fun GIPHY, and adding songs you’ve favorited or recently played is a cinch. Of course, listening offline is a key feature, and you can listen on your computer, iOS device, home device, or Android device. Your library and playlists are stored in the cloud. TIDAL AppTIDAL is a Norwegian subscription-based music, podcast, and video streaming service. You might recall that it had rather odd beginnings. Rapper Jay-Z acquired developer Aspiro, and upon launch, stood around with cohorts, trying to make it seem as though they were ushering in a new era in music. Well, I guess publicity stunts still work! Their main selling proposition, upon launch, was that they offered lossless audio and high-definition music videos with exclusive content and special features. Now that it’s been around for six years, these features don’t seem as revolutionary though. Anyway, TIDAL gives you access to 70+ million songs, an ad-free experience, mixes and radio, hand-picked playlists, videos and live streams, and the ability to listen on any device, even offline. You will need to upgrade to TIDAL Premium ($9.99 per month) or TIDAL HiFi ($19.99 per month) if you want access to all these features, but they both have a 30-day free trial. HiFi, by the way, also gives you HiFi sound quality (over Premium sound quality), and TIDAL Masters. Of course, they have a free app as well. TIDAL Pros & Cons
LiveXLiveLiveXLive is a streaming service home to music, video, and podcast content. They were once known as Slacker Radio. It’s somewhat unique in that it’s primarily home to concert and festival livestreams. Now, if that’s not your cup of tea, then you could give this one a skip. That said, it is a unique and interesting idea, and if you’re a big fan of concerts, you’ll probably enjoy it. Their app is free to download and use, of course. With a free LiveXLive Basic account, you can get a feel for what’s available, including concert and festival livestreams, handcrafted audio stations, personalized recommendations, and original shows and podcasts. LiveXLive Plus, at $3.99 per month gives you an ad-free experience with unlimited skips and maximum audio quality. Offline listening is not available unless you upgrade to LiveXLive Premium, which costs $9.99 per month. With Premium, you can also play on demand. LiveXLive Pros & Cons
Gaana, Listen To Hindi Songs Without The InternetNow we’re moving into decidedly niche territory, as Gaana is home to Hindi music and podcasts. Their website is incredibly hard to use if not a little broken. That said, you can still get the free app and it works fine. Gaana gives you access to over 45 million songs, podcasts & shows, unlimited downloads, HD music streaming, thousands of expert playlists, Hotshots Videos & Status, 30+ Mirchi radio stations, India’s podcasts & shows, lyrics, and music videos. You will need to upgrade to Gaana Plus to get access to unlimited MP3s for offline listening, ad-free experience, high-definition audio, and the ability to sync downloads to five devices. But you do get a 15-day trial as well. And, amazingly, Gaana Plus only costs $2.99 per month. Gaana Pros & Cons
JioSaavnJioSaavn, like Gaana, is a streaming service dedicated to trending Bollywood Hindi music. But they do have podcast content as well. Their app is free to download, and it gives you access to unlimited music, expert curated playlists, personalized smart recommendations, lyrics, exclusive content, original shows & podcasts, and more. To listen offline, you’ll need to upgrade to JioSaavn Pro, which gives you access to an ad-free experience, the ability to listen offline, high quality audio, special deals on concerts, products, and events, and more.
