As you can tell, where you fish and what you fish in and how you fish greatly effects what size line you will be using.

I unlike most “southern guys” carry several Spinning Rigs with me on the boat. One, I have the space for them. Two, they give me more options for different presentations. Three, I grew up with Spinning and still enjoy using it.

I have one rod with 8 lb mono. That one is for those days when Bass are not biting and I decide to save the day by catching a few Specks or Bream. But I have caught Bass on it on those Cold Cold Florida Days while using a Hard Jerkbait. Something about that smaller line in cold water gives it just the right deal to make them bite. It is a 6’6” Medium rod with a 1000 sized reel.

I have two rods rigged with 12 lb mono Big Game. I use them for Hard Jerkbaits in warm weather, Shakey Head, some Topwater, and Whatnot. They are on Medium 6’6” rods that are older than some of you with 2000 sized reels.

Lately I have added two more to my collection. They are 6’6” Medium and MH rods spooled on 2500 series reels with 50 lb Braid. I use them for Wacky Rig, Topwater, and with the MH can use it fir pretty much whatever Bait I want to throw.

You might of noticed they are all 6’6”. For one they fit in that rod box easily and I can walk baits better with that size rod.

So there is no One Right Answer. You must adapt your outfits to Your Personal Style of Fishing.

If I had only 2 Outfits, as the Original Poster stated he had, I would most likely rig one with 15-20 lb braid and one with 30-50 lb braid. With those two you can pretty much fish anything anywhere.

However if the waters I fished were really really clear, then I would switch that to 15 lb and 20-25 lb Flouro by a quality brand.

Personally I find the Sunline Assassin to be a perfect mix of Limpness, Castability, and Toughness and is what I use for all my Flouro needs.

I know that this subject has been addressed many times and I have gone back and reviewed the old threads but here goes again.

I am not satisfied with the line I have on my spinning reels.  Baitcaster are not an issue.  I've used Invisz for some time but am tired of the curls and having to drag the line behind the boat to straighten it out and in cold water it is even worst.  I have tried some braids like Power Pro and am not a fan of the dye coming off.

I recently landed on Berkley Nanofil and thought this was the answer.  I like the white color because I can see it but feel like I need a floro leader.  Although I recall Bo saying that leaders are not needed with braid.  For me tying on a leader is a pain but more so it seems to break at the leader just below the knot.  At times I don't use a leader with the green Nanofil but note that it frays some near the lure when dragging a Ned etc.

I'm thinking now about Suffix 832 in a color called Ghost.

So I am looking for the best braid or braid like line (not mono or carbon) with maximum casting distance on a decent 2500/3000 series reel to throw 1/16 - 3/16 oz Neds and the like.  What brand, line weight, and color and what knot if you use a leader?

Daiwa J Braid x8 in 8# is hard to beat for that use. It's what I run when I am throwing something that needs braid. The 4x is a 4 carrier line, and is rougher, more of a flip and frog line. They have a new one out Grand, also an 8 carrier, but I didn't like it enough to spool any yet. It's slick and stiffer than the 8x regular. Several colors available.

That said, your trouble with FC might be due to spool size. 2500s are too small to handle it well, as are the new Daiwa LT in the 3000, or the Lew's in 3000ish. The Daiwa Black Gold and Eliminators still use the old big 3000 spools, and the Lew's 35 (saltwater) and 40 are ok for it. It also needs lots of line conditioner, as does the braid, really.

Braid remains a mess in wind, and it has some other quirks. It's not the almighty twirly reel solution folks make it out to be.

I have gone to braid/leader on my spinning setups, except for tossing moving baits.  I like Seaguar Smackdown.  It's just right for tying braid to leader knots in that is not too stiff or too supple and works well for me - but that is a personal preference, may not work for you.  I get the high viz version, it holds the color well, it will fade over time, but it hasn't gotten white after a day of use like some of the other brands I have tried.  It's not cheap, $30 a spool, but it lasts forever.

Bo could make straight braid work, I have tried it, I caught fish, but it would always get frayed, fairly quickly, and on about hookset 3 or 4, would just break, so I stick with a leader.  I've tied so many braid to leader knots that it is not a big deal to tie one.  I think the knot I use is the Alberto knot, 10 wraps one way, than back over the 10 wraps with 4 or 5 wraps.

A lot of people like Suffix 832, certainly worth a shot.

FWIW, I use 15 lb. braid and 10 lb. leader for finesse stuff.  Distance is not an issue.

I also used Invisx pretty much exclusively on spinning reels for quite a few years but also got tired of the loops and curls not to mention the expense and was looking for an alternative.  Yo-Zuri hybrid seemed like a decent choice for a while and I also tried the Maxima that Mr. Babler loves but did not get along with it at all.  At the recommendation of RPS I tried a braid called Finatic and liked it enough to convert all my spinning tackle and I'm a guy that's been a braid hater since the original Spiderwire.

In my opinion it handles and performs better than any braid that I've ever used and doesn't lose its color.  This will be the third year for the same line on at least three reels and it looks just like the day I put it on.  It's never dug into the spool or come flying off in globs like some braids or most mono or fluro nor has it ever wrapped around a guide.  It has also never gotten frayed or that fuzzy look that every other braid I've tried does.

I have never used a leader in my life and needing to would be a dealbreaker for me but this stuff ties directly to the lure with no problem.  I really like it for Ned fishing and tiny crappie jigs.

I have even spooled it on a couple of bait casters for jig and other bottom bumping stuff and it works great.

If I have a complaint about the stuff at all it would be that it's kinda hard to see but certainly no harder than Invisx that's for sure.

It comes in a blue/black or green/black color and I really haven't found one to be better than the other.

It ain't cheap but if it lasts three or more seasons I'm saving a ton of money compared what I was spending on Invisx and having to respool every couple of days.

I use the 10 lb. version which is .006 diameter.

I'm sure RPS could fill in the blanks as to whatever details I failed to mention.

I tried Invis X on 6 lb on a 3000 Daiwa Tatula LT because Super Dave loved it. I hate it. Nope. I’m freaking done with that idea.

Spro finesse braid is good. Pricey. I’m using the 10 lb.

Daiwa J Braid 8 strand is Good. I’m using the 6 lb.

Power Pro V2 is Nice. I’m about to spool up 10 on a 2000 Size Daiwa BG.

the fish might not need you to use a leader, but I need the leader. It’s good to have a weak link to break when you need it. It saves you the pricey braid on re-ties.
I really don’t have issues on the braid/leader connection. Alberto or Uni/Uni or triple turn surgeons knot

The 3000 LT spool size is different than the old 3000s. They darn near wrecked them.

In an LT you need to go to the 4000. Weight is about the same as the old 3000s, similar spool size, still a little smaller.

FWIW, I'm leaving tomorrow, and have close to 2500yds of 6# Red Label and Invizx spooled.

Honestly never have an issue with the floobies on large spool reels.

Bobby I have tried braid, braid/fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders and straight fluorocarbon.  I use Seaguar red label and love it in 12 and 15# test.  It’s not bad in 8 and 10# test but I gave up on it in 6#.  It would be fine for a while then all of a sudden it would be useless and break like sewing thread.  That chapped me as I have 5 setups spooled for Ned.

Upon the advice of a good fisherman I bought Yozuri hybrid in 6# and have not looked back.  I use it on Shimano spinning reels in sizes 1000 and 2000 and Shimano X70 bait casting without issue.  It has been on since late last summer and doesn’t need to be changed yet.

I've started using Yozuri braid with Yozuri fc leader.  I use 15lb braid and 8lb leader.   I like their stuff.   Very inexpensive and their fc is super good in my opinion.

I use white power pro 8-1 with an Alberto connect mono 6# like @Ham like the weak link. But am thinking of trying the Dawia and yozori after reading this thread.

What braid is best for spinning reels?

Daiwa J Braid X8. First up in our list of the best braid for spinning reels is the J Braid X8 by Daiwa. ... .
Spiderwire Dura 4 Braid. Next up is a braid I have used myself for heavy lure fishing when targeting big pike, and it is a braid favoured by many top predator anglers. ... .
Berkely X9 Braid. ... .
Berkley Whiplash Carrier 8 Braid..

What size braid is best for spinning reel?

You should use 8-10 lb. monofilament as backing for your spinning reel. Any heavier than that and you start running into problems like your braid not laying flat along the backing or your braid getting caught in the mono to braid knot.

Is braided line good for spinning reels?

Of the two, braided line is superior on a spinning reel. It is small in diameter, casts far, has no stretch, is incredibly strong, is extremely durable, and, most importantly, has virtually no line memory. All of these attributes make braided line a dream come true for spinning gear.

What is the smoothest casting braided line?

BEST CASTING BRAIDED LINE: BERKLEY X9 BRAIDED LINE This braided line utlizes 9-carrier technology and it's very round which helps it avoid digging on itself and also helps it glide through your fishing rod's line guides smoother and quieter.
