Best glasses for laser hair removal

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY! You will destroy your eyes
Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2020

I purchased this for an IPL at home laser hair removal device, and unfortunately these will be going back immediately! The packaging states these are safety goggles, but they are actually just plain sunglasses! (They don’t even look like the picture advertised.) Please do not try operating a laser while wearing these, you can permanently damage your eyes. Attached are pictures of what I received. The box, the glasses bag and the glasses are THREE DIFFERENT BRANDS. The sunglasses are a brand called Crossfire (model 41291). Quick search on google brought me to other website selling them as safety eyewear but not for lasers...just sunglasses! Bait and switched!

Muy buenas, aunque me quedaron un poco grandes

While this does the job, it’s on the big side. I have to push it up as far back as I can to prevent any red light from sneaking through. A little disappointed but I’ll deal with it.

I like how light these are and how protective they are during IPL.

I got these to wear over my glasses when I use a small red and blue led light on my face to self-treat acne. These glasses work OK for that. I don't know for sure because I haven't spent a ton of time researching them to see if these glasses actually do protect against those kind of lights...which are LED...but it seems like probably they do. The reason I don't know more is because I don't know exactly how or what I should research. They seem to protect in most situations though...so U figure they are better than nothing.

Nothing was my only alternative really. Because I need to see where I'm applying the light...the little blocking sets that you use for tanning beds won't work. One set like that came with an led light that I bought you actually CAN see through...but they don't work over glasses which I need because I'm really blind!

So...there seemed to be no alternative for me. These are a relatively expensive alternative versus nothing. If they weren't so expensive I'd get a second pair for traveling. But they cost too much for that...especially with the gapping problem that lets in light. I sort of block the gap with my hand.

Also, that reminds me about one thing that I really DON'T LIKE about these glasses...the case that they came with. It's too small and I can't zip it all the way closed. Although it was zipped closed when they arrived...I can't do it. So these wouldn't even be great for traveling.

Which leads me to wonder why there aren't more options available. So if anyone knows of something else that may work better...or that has a case that closes. Please reply to my review and let me know! My research to date hasn't unearthed any good alternatives.

3.0 out of 5 stars These Seem to Work OK Over Glasses...But Have Gaps That Let Light In...Also the Case is Too Small & Doesn't Close

I love these glasses they work great to keep the laser from blinding me. I have a blue diode laser engraver and even when its running its still bright but doesnt bother me. They work perfectly in my opinion.

Kinda big for my average face & has gaps if I look down, up and doesn't fully protect as I feel this priced glasses should. Who knows if they even protect. The average person has no scientific way of testing them or their rating. However, the company seems to have many regards, many honest reviews & a good reputation. I am disappointed they do not fully protect your eyes or the light that gets in from the bottom; which is precisely the purpose & way they will be utilized. Ie. Somone looking downward to perform a task w/their hands. They are also quite large for the average size adult & face. I had 3 or 4 adults of both sexes, ages, sizes, heights, etc. & same result for all of them. This is a very broad universal protection glasses that imho doesn't give thorough protection based on the design of glasses. Great idea, poor design & poorly executed for my satisfaction for the price paid. If these were $10 glasses, I would not complain but these are expensive, higher end protection glasses. More testing w/real life humans should have been done to tweak the design & gain further; if not full complete protection from emitting light; esp. from the eyes down direction. I gave 3 stars for the company's reputation, lengthy history & the fact they do offer some protection. I would not buy again & probably search for glasses that have full coverage protection, w/no gaps & a way to tighen or keep the glasses on the head.

The safety glasses totally blocked at "point blank range" my red and blue laser pens, as well as my ultraviolet flashlight. But they only dimmed but did block the coherent light of my three green laser pens (from three different manufacturers) for the green laser diodes operating at 532 nm. On the other hand, the Amazon "FreeMascot" safety glasses I substituted for these are rated at eye protection for "190nm-550nm / 800nm-1700nm Wavelength Professional Laser Safety Glasses for Typical 405nm, 445nm, 450nm, 520nm, 532nm, 808nm, 980nm, 1064nm, 1100nm Laser Light...," and totally blocked my blue, green and red lasers pen laser beams, as well as my ultraviolet flashlight beam (all shined through both the front and rear light filter lenses), from illuminating a target approximately 3" away with no lights shinning through. Also of note, with wearing these substitute safety glasses an external video near-IR (850 nm) lamp's LED diode bulbs showed faint red dots when the lamp was powered on, but largely protected me from the near-IR "light." If I weren't working against very powerful (and possibly demonic) paranormal activity using multiple green laser diodes operating at 532 nm I wouldn't be commenting.

I have used these under high intensity plant lights. The lights are mainly red spectrum. Unfiltered, the lights hurt my eyes. These glasses do a good job reducing the brightness. I haven't had to CV lean the lenses yet, but would recommend being gentle so as not to leave scratches. The frames are snug. If you get a hold of dark glasses issued after cataract surgery, the frames are similar. They feel like they could break easily. The frames appear bulky but that's because they try to seal light out from around the edges. For me they work. Read the specs in the description area to make sure they apply to your situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable for long term use. Fits over spectacles.

Very comfortable. The ends of the arms do not press too hard into the side of my head.

The semi-hard case comes with a soft cloth to keep the lenses clean of fingerprints. It fits into my tool box without being crushed.

The best feature is that they fit over my existing spectacles easily and without causing any issues.

This means I can take notes and measure readings without exposing my eyes to the laser light.

I use them constantly at work so I don't have to share safety laser goggles. That way I'm keeping others safe as well as myself.
