The concept of Disney's Big Hero 6 was taken from Marvel, which Disney acquired in 2009, making Big Hero 6 the first animated Disney movie to feature Marvel characters[1]. The first issue of the comics themselves were published by 1998, created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau.[2] ReceptionThe film is received well critically and commercially worldwide. It currently has a review score of 8.0 on IMDB[3] and an average score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes[4]. Reviewers agree that the film is brilliantly animated and humorous. In other words, not only have many of the factories that existed 35 or 45 years ago closed, but even if all of them would've remained open they would've had a lot fewer workers than they used to (which is the case at the factories that have actually remained open). That's bad enough. This movie makes an even more apocalyptic prediction than that. For example, at the beginning of the movie the boy and his robot demonstrate that a job that currently needs 185 people will someday only need 1 person, thanks to this robot. That's worse than the already pathetic 90% job loss that's happened in real life. If this would've been portrayed in either a negative or a neutral light this would've been excusable and perhaps admirable. But it was portrayed in a positive light. If this would've been played for laughs this may or may not have been appropriate or excusable, depending on how it would've been done. But it was played straight. A lack of sensitivity toward blue collar workers, bordering on bigotry. Is this what we want to teach our children? If you think that job reallocation and job loss are fine, this is a movie for you.
