Q: What does the blue light on my dashboard mean?

Hi all. I'm a newbie and I was wondering if it's normal for the blue temp light to come on when I start my car? I live in the Bay Area so it doesn't get that cold at night. I've never had a car do that before. The blue temp light stays on for a few minutes then shuts off. Oh and when I open the trunk with the remote it just opens and doesn't pop open all the way. Is that normal? Thanks! I have a mazda 3 4 door

Yes. It's normal. It should go away after the engine has been running for a few minutes.

Can't say about the trunk, might need to lube the latch system.

The cold engine light is just a warning light for when the water temp is below 120F.

The blue light is normal, as the others have said. It's only there to warn you not to rev the crap out of the car, until the engine is warm that is... I always try to stay under 3k until the blue light turns off.

I don't think the sedan trunk is supposed to open fully.

I have 4 door and the trunks pops open about a 1/4 of the way. I believe that is normal.

I use that blue indicator light to tell me when to turn on my car's heater. Don't expect warm air until after that light goes off. Also keep in mind that the car isn't fully warmed up at the moment that light goes off. It takes another few minutes of driving for that.

If you've ever looked at your dashboard in confusion, you're not alone. Many different symbols and lights can pop up, and it can be a lot to take in. When it's blue, it means your motor isn't quite at the operational driving temperature yet. In other words, the engine needs to heat up. It's not a big concern as long as it turns off after a little while.
