Thank you for your interest in touring DC Water facilities. Due to the evolving situation with the Coronavirus, tours at the Authority have been suspended indefinitely. While DC Water plans to offer tours in the future, the Authority is not accepting any tour requests at this time.  This message will be updated as news is available.

School Groups – Wednesdays at 10am

Other Interested parties – Thursdays at 10 am

Duration

Tours last approximately 60-90 minutes.

Group Size

up to 25 guests at one time

Transportation

Transportation will be provided for groups of up to 12.

School Groups

Students in grades 6 to 11 (ages 12 – 16) are allowed on the plant, but will not be permitted to exit the vehicle.

High school seniors (12th grade, 17 years and older) will be permitted to exit the vehicle on the plant, at the tour guide's discretion.

Wastewater is collected by the District of Columbia sewer system and from the Maryland and Virginia suburbs and is delivered to the Blue Plains AWTP. The Blue Plains AWTP is the largest advanced wastewater treatment facility of its type in the world. We also have the wastewater treatment process detailed in the "What We Do" section of this website. In the meantime, join us on a virtual tour of the facility!
