Can a 13 year old watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?

In February 2013, Kitsis & Horowitz, along with producers Zack Estrin and Jane Espenson, developed a spin-off focusing on Lewis Carroll's Wonderland.[176] The series was called Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. A "teaser presentation" began shooting in April 2013, and the pilot was shot in late July or August.[177] On May 10, 2013, ABC announced that it had approved the spin-off and on May 14, 2013, announced that the spin-off would air in the Thursday night 8:00pm time slot instead of making it a fill-in for the parent series.[178] The series premiered on October 10, 2013, but was cancelled[179] after a single-season thirteen-episode run, and ended on April 3, 2014.[180]

Movie ratings can be a crap shoot at times, with projects presenting themselves as experiences that could straddle key thresholds in some of their earliest trailers. On the other hand, when a Quentin Tarantino film is announced, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be an R-rated extravaganza.

The man just doesn’t do “tame” or “safe” fare for the masses, opting to go over the top with violence, profanity, and gore effects whenever he shows up to the table. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood hits theaters on July 26th, with all of the language, graphic violence, drug use, and sexual references you could expect from a Quentin Tarantino affair.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Near the end of the film there is a big bloody fight sequence with a dog viciously biting two people, a woman is hit in the face with a can of dog food with her bloody face shown, a man is stabbed in the leg and then has his face stomped, a woman has her face repeatedly slammed against various objects, we then see her very bloody face and a person burned alive. This whole scene is meant for laughs but it is still pretty violent.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The finale of the film is intensely violent and shocking. However, the context of the violence aims to make the scene humorous instead of disturbing.

Is Once Upon a Time appropriate for 13 year olds?

This isn't your kids' fairy tale collection, however, nor is it a suitable bedtime story for the little ones. It's dark, intense, occasionally sexy, and at times too violent for younger kids. The constant plot twists and the characters' unpredictable motivations, can be worrisome, too.

What age group is Once Upon a Time?

It really is intended for teens 14+ because of the occasional sexual reference (there is one scene in the first season where the mayor says she is going to a meeting but she is actually meeting up with the sheriff and doing 'mischievous' things) and there is very subtle language.

Is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 18+?

Once Upon a Time In Hollywood: Brad Pitt stars in trailer Unsurprisingly, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has been given an 18 certificate, following in the footsteps of all of the director's films. The reason given is for the film's “strong bloody violence”; Tarantino's signature mark no less.

Why is Once Upon a Time Hollywood rated 18?

From Reservoir Dogs to The Hateful Eight, the auteur has never been shy on doling out violence, gore and strong language – and his latest film is no different. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, his ninth film (he counts both Kill Bill films as one), has been given an 18 by the BBFC for 'strong bloody violence'.
