Can you get Gengar in ultra sun without trading?

As much as we love the new Pokemon of generation nine, a lot of us are diehard fans of the classics. One such fan favourite is Gengar. 

This spooky boi is the evolution of Haunter, another Ghost type that has possessed our hearts with its loveable nature. 

But the question is how to get Gengar? This isn’t a Pokemon you’re going to see in the wild, not unless you’re ridiculously lucky. 

As always here at Retro Dodo, we have the solution for you. We know, we’re pretty nice like that!

How To Get Gengar (Without Online Trade) In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

To get Gengar without online trading you need to in-game trade with an NPC in Levincia city, located in East Province. The NPC is in the city; just follow the path past the Levincia Gym and you’ll spot them. 

They’re wearing a polka dot top and red shorts. Another easy way to identify them is they have a yellow speech bubble saying “A Pincurchin would be great!”. 

Talk to them and they’ll ask if you’d like to trade your Pincurchin for their Haunter. If you don’t have a Pincurchin yet, they can be around the waters of East Province (Area One). However, they’re not the most common find so be prepared for a lot of searching. 

Assuming you have a Pincurchin on you, begin the trade and watch as the NPC’s Haunter evolves into Gengar when you receive it. No Nintendo Online Pass necessary. 

How To Evolve Haunter Into Gengar In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

To evolve Haunter into Gengar using Online Trade with friends, visit the “Poke Portal” via the Menu. Use the A button to select “Trade Link” then input your friend’s Link Code before pressing “Begin Searching”. 

If you’re the one receiving Haunter, select which Pokemon you want to exchange and confirm you agree to the trade; I sent across my Drifloon because it’s a Pokemon Scarlet exclusive. 

Once it’s all confirmed, watch as the magic happens. Pokeballs fly through the air, lighting up the sky, as you wave bye to your old Pokemon and hello to your new one.

Upon receiving Haunter, your Pokedex will add its details before an evolution cutscene triggers and Haunter evolves into Gengar.

And just look at his face! Who doesn’t want such an endearing Pokemon in their party?!

In the north east part of Seafolk Village, you'll find a verteran. She would like to trade your Granbull for her Shellos. This is the only way to get West Sea Shellos in the game. It has a max IV in Defense

It's always been my favorite Pokemon. But I don't know anyone that plays Pokemon so I can't trade. I remember in yellow there was a girl who traded you machoke so you got machamp. Any similar npcs in ultra sun?
