Desk facing window or wall reddit

I am working to rearrange/reorganize my desk and have a question regarding desk placement. I currently have my desk (holding Computer + monitors) in front of a window that gets significant sun during the day (6+hrs). My thought was that I would enjoy the view outside. I have a free wall (perpendicular to window wall) that is another possibility for desk placement.

So I ask, which is preferred for you all: placement of desk against a window or placement of desk opposite/perpendicular to window?

i put mine facing the wall next to my window

This way I can focus on my screen in front of me without the major backlight, the desk/monitor/desk things won't obstruct my view when I'm not working, and if I want to look out my window, it's still right there.

Do you have a floor plan or photos of what you're workin with?

If you're ambivalent on where your desk goes, think about where you prefer everything else going first. That may narrow down your desk decision.

If I were you, I would put it against the wall. When I attempted to do something similar, the sun proved to be more of a hassle than expected. It gets in your eyes, makes your monitors look like shit and overall, the sunlight pretty much bakes all of your hardware if enough exposure is on it. But then again, it's personal preference.

You've inspired me to move the desk! Also considering I can barely read this with the glare.....

Looks like I have a fun little Friday afternoon project! Thanks for your help!

Update: Thank you for all of the suggestions! I rearranged the room to end up putting the desk against the wall perpendicular to the window. My desk is in my second bedroom, so I have to work around a twin xl guest bed. I ended up moving the bed against the window.

I like the desk here and I think it gives me a little bit more room for some lighting improvement (LEDs etc)

I've got a suggestion for you OP.

TO THE WINDOOOOOOOOOOW TO DA WALL

level 1

I'd always put my computer against a wall. Especially if the casing is dark, things can get hot in the sun. Also, if it is in the window, people will be able to see it. People are not always honest and trustworthy, and may feel you have something worth stealing. And you will be blocking sunlight from the rest of your room if you put your desk in the window.

level 2

I like how you think. As for your lighting control, do you use LEDs or just the lights in your room?

level 1

Against the wall. I like to keep the area around the window as clear as possible.... good for airflow and its just nice being able to lay in the sunlight or move my chair over to the window to read or something.

Anywhere as long as your back isn't to the door.

Should my desk face the window or wall?

Avoid facing a wall. If that's your only option, then place a mirror in front of you to expand your view and career opportunities. Windows are best on your side. If you're facing the view, you'll be distracted.

Is it good to put a desk in front of a window?

A desk in front of a window can cause distractions and limited visibility when the sun is shining brightly. By turning your back to the window, you'll benefit from the air and light without distractions. It's a best of both worlds solution!

Should a desk be facing a wall?

If you rarely use your desk, it would be better to situate it in the corner of a room or next to a wall. However, if the desk is the most-used item in a room, it would work well in the center of a room or against the wall. It is vital to situate a desk you frequently use in a comfortable spot.

Should computer be facing window or away?

To avoid glare or shadows caused by nearby windows, and the resulting eyestrain, don't compute while facing an unshaded window or with an unshaded window directly behind you. Shades, blinds, or curtains can help. The best window position is to the side of your computer.
