Ratings & ReviewsHi guys! One thing I hope you know by now is that I try hard to be upfront and honest around these parts. When I like something I tell you, and when I don’t like something I tell you too. I tested Rustoleum’s Chalked paint a few months ago, and told you all about it. I wasn’t paid to do so, either. {Well, unless you buy products from my links, then I do earn a small referral commission, just keeping’ it real}. My main beef with Chalk Paint in general before I reviewed chalked paint, was the wax. I’m not a fan. I don’t like how it feels. I don’t like that a high traffic piece of furniture needs to be re-waxed in a few months. It’s just not my fave. So, when I decided to try the protective topcoat product from Rustoleum, , a little voice in my head said, “This could be the product that replaces wax forever.” But I needed to try it myself enough to know if it would work well. I hope you know that I try to save my readers heartache, project disasters, and time. After all, I’ve gone through my fair share of all of the above. For the last several months after using the new protective topcoat product Chalk Paint instead of wax, I have to say I’m in absolutely 100% in love. I have not had to reapply the product once! AND it’s not extra glossy and it’s not yellowy! I do not know if it yellows over an extended amount of time, but after 6 months it has not yellowed. I used the product on this armoire, and I love how great it turned out! In fact, here are a list of all of the supplies I used in case you are curious {again, I will earn a small commission if you buy something}: Chalk Paint BrushChalked Paint Country GrayChalked Protective Top CoatPurdy Brush3M Super Fine Sanding PadsLint Free ClothsI used the same refinishing process for this armoire as I did in this video below: I don’t have a before picture of this armoire, but this is part of the set that is in the video above, so it was that same honey oak color, and the after pictures don’t do it justice! The Chalked Paint from Rustoleum is definitely a great product, but it only comes in a few colors, so if you want a great product that can mix into any flat paint and make chalk paint, try BB Frosch Chalk paint powder. I LOVE that stuff. I’m excited to say that the protective topcoat product is awesome. It dries quickly too. I’m not a huge fan of wax. I know the typical chalk paint finishing step is to wax the furniture when you are done, but I like Rustoleum’s Matte Topcoat product better than wax. It has held up past the lifespan of wax on high traffic pieces! They sell it in stores at Home Depot now too! Or if you are like me and are an online addicted shopper, you can order it online HERE. Look at how pretty the finish turned out!!!!I have to admit, I painted this furniture for my neighbor, and when I gave them back, I was super sad. #DIYproblems Hope you had a great weekend! xoxo, Brooke If you have any questions about the technique, products, or topcoat, feel free to comment, I will respond.
