Does Zagg blue light filter work?

Hey all. Like many/most I’ve played the screen protector lottery with my IPP 11. Wanted to see if the blue light blocking for the Zagg Glass+ Visionguard protector did anything.

Rcvd the screen protector but I’m wondering what the 2 cutouts circled in red are for. Aren’t all the Face ID sensors by the center cutout (which looks like every other screen protector I’ve tried)? Does anyone else have these 2 odd cutouts or is this a gigantic screwup on Zaggs part?

It almost looks like they’ve tried to recycles precut glass sheets because the 2 cutouts look like their original Face ID cutout before they revised the protector.

I returned my 2018 12.9 that had touch issues. I thought it was all the different glass screen protectors I was trying. Amazon loved me for awhile with all the glass screen protectors I was buying. I took my last one off and noticed the touch issues continued. Returned the iPad to Apple and the replacement hasn't had any touch issues with a cheap Amazon glass screen protector on it.

I'm also interested in the vision guard. I have the blue light blocker in my low prescription eyeglasses too. Honestly, I can't tell any difference in eyestrain.

I contacted Zagg and they’re now sending me a 3rd screen protector. Pretty funny they have no idea wth is going on with those cutouts.

My glasses that have the blue light filter have a slight purplish looking tint that others can see when looking at me. I can’t really see the color difference while wearing my glasses. But I can see it in my reflection. I haven’t been able to tell any difference with eye strain. Maybe it helps with long term eye health?

Amazon has a brand called pandaking for $9.99. No idea if they’re legit. It may be the same glass as Zagg. Unsure if manuf defects from Zagg or they’re sourcing from the same factory. Comedic they ripped off zaggs website copy for their product though. Hello trademark and potential IP infringement.

Retinaguard glass, also on amazon, seems legit but it doesn’t seem to block wavelengths above 430nm which literature suggests may impact your eyes. It’s thinner than Zagg, 0.4mm vs 0.75mm, 9H etc but warranty policy isn’t as generous.

There a film product by Fiara out of Australia that seems to offer the best blue light blocking. Disappointed they don’t have a glass product.

Tech armor confirmed they may be doing a retinashield IPP 11 & 12. They’ve been great in my experience, happy to give them my money if they can get it together.

I have the regular Zagg glass+ that I installed a month ago and mine doesn’t have those cutouts. Also my notch cutout is smaller too it’s not full size. Everything works fine though no touch issues and Face ID works great. Also the packaging itself doesn’t show those cutouts.

So i happened to go into Best Buy and I noticed that they had 2 versions on the shelf the one with cutouts and one without. What I saw was the one without the cutouts did not show any cutouts on the packaging itself like with mine above and I saw on the back it had a copyright date of 2018. The one with cutouts showed the cutouts on the package and had a copyright of 2019 on the back. So it seems to me that the one with the cutouts is the latest version. My packaging also has the 2018 date so it is an earlier version.

Also, upon closer inspection what i noticed was even though mine doesn’t have those cutouts when i look closely there are little circles there and it seems to me they left out the adhesive there and cut circles so that the sensors dont get covered up. But those circles are so small that if the install is not dead on they might overlap and you will cover up the Face ID sensors with the adhesive part causing it to not work. I luckily managed to get mine installed perfectly to where the sensors aren’t covered up which is why my Face ID is working perfectly fine but I can see that its easy to mess up since you can’t really tell. So it seems to me to make it easier to install they made actual cutouts in the glass so you dont accidentally cover up any sensors during the install. Also, as OP pointed out the 2 cutouts on the left and right side are for the light sensor which on mine there is that adhesive layer missing and there’s 2 small circles under the glass on each side. I’m under the impression all 2019 versions of the screen protector are using actual cutouts to prevent issues with both Face ID and the light sensors.

Heard back from Zagg finally after contacting CEO. Supposedly the cutouts are for the ambient light sensors.

However, I spoke to a Apple Sr. Advisor and they said the sensors were in the middle near FaceID.

Yeah not a problem! So if you go back to apples keynote during the iPad Pro announcement they show that the light sensors are on the left and right side. Odd how the Sr. Advisor mentioned that cause mainly the Face ID stuff is in the middle.

It is odd the sr advisor didn’t know, but IMO Apple support quality is getting worse these days. Cannot believe you found/remembered that. I totally forgot and did a quick search, came up with snake eyes. I assume the blue light blocking must impact that somehow, hence the cutouts. This is zaggs 3rd rev of this product, tiny Face ID cutout, just center, now center & ambient light. What’s hilarious is no one at Zagg knew either.

Yeah I do find that to be odd but I do agree about the quality of Apple support. It is surprising no one at Zagg knew like I don’t see how they wouldn't know about it since its not like they randomly put those cutouts there for no reason lol! But i did not know that there are three versions of this product until you pointed it out. Still surprising though that the first version of the product is still out there sitting on store shelves.
