Flying against the wind an airplane travels

Video Transcript

For this exercise, we have first to determine the slope, so that's going to be six Y equal to negative four X -5 will divide by six. So this is gonna be negative 2/3 x minus 5/6. And so the slope is what we want now that we have this slope, we can plug in our point, so we have Y -2 equals negative 2/3 x -5. This is called point slope, So we'll get y equal to negative 2/3 x plus 10/3 plus two. Thus will have y equals negative 2/3 x plus 16 3rd. And that's the solution to this exercise.

We travel against the wind with the planes based on their speed and still air. Let's call it P, minus the wind speed. Since we're going against the wind, we subtracted and were given a rate of 2190 km in three hours, that gives us 730 km/h. When we go with the wind, we have the plane speed and the wind speed. In this case, we have a rate of 5550 km in five hours and we haveDividing that out gives us 1100 km/h. Two equations and two unknowns have been created. We can solve the system of equations using substitution. So we can add over W to both sides to get P. P is 7 30 plus W and we have another plus. We are able to add our terms. W Plus W gives us two W, so we have to subtract 7 30 from both sides to get 3 80. To get 190 kilometers per hour, we divide 3 by two. Now that we have the wind speed, we can use this expression to get P to be 7 30 plus the wind speed of 1 90 to get the plane speed.

What does it mean to fly against the wind?

idiom. to be trying to achieve something that is unlikely to succeed because most people would oppose it: He's sailing against the wind in his attempt to stop women joining the club.

What is the rate of the jet in still air?

Velocity of jet in still air is 970 miles per hour and velocity of wind is 210 miles per hour.

How do you find the velocity of a plane?

On the return trip, the airplane travels with the wind, and takes 2 hours 45 minutes (or 2.75 hours) to travel 1,650 miles. What is the speed of the airplane in still air and the speed of the wind? Velocity (against the wind) = 1650 ÷ 3 = 550 miles per hour. Velocity (with the wind) = 1650 ÷ 2.75 = 600 miles per hour.
