It can be difficult to simultaneously manage a publishing schedule, utilize content sources, and use paid social advertising. The Hootsuite Publisher is here to help. It’s a sort of command center for your publishing, scheduling, and paid social activities.

PLANNER

To begin, click the icon to open Publisher, then planner and start reviewing your drafted and scheduled posts. You can scroll through your past scheduled history, or view what’s next in your scheduled calendar queue.

Past scheduled posts are colour coded. Green means a post has published successfully; and red means it’s failed to publish. Click the pencil icon to edit a failed message, and prepare it for publishing again.

You can filter messages by social network, and identify publishing gaps in your upcoming calendar. Members of Enterprise organizations can also filter by Campaign, to isolate relevant content quickly.

CONTENT

Now let’s have a look at the content tab. Here you’ll find tools like the RSS reader and the Bulk Composer, which are useful for preparing multiple posts, quickly.

You can also review your *drafted* posts, to continue working on something that’s in progress.

Drafts and scheduled content are shown in a list view, which can be exported and saved at any time. Click to export specific posts, or select all.

If you have content sourcing apps installed, they’ll appear here in the Sidebar. For example, you can use Google Drive to access things like branded images. Don’t forget that installed apps that contain media are also available within Composer, through the Media Library.

Members of Enterprise organizations can alternatively view their team’s Content Libraries, to begin composing messages with approved assets.

To increase the visibility of published posts, click the Promote Tab. Use Boost to apply an advertising budget either by manually selecting popular posts, or by creating a custom, automated campaign.

Coming up next, we’ll take an in-depth look at managing the Hootsuite Planner, and we’ll review how to get the most out of content publishing tools like RSS feeds, Bulk Composer, and Drafts.

HootSuite adds advanced publishing options in the dashboard including calendar views for scheduled messages, Limited Permissions for collaborating with contractors and interns, and a social profile selection tool for quick posting to favorite social networks. These tools are immediately available to the 1.85 million users of HootSuite’s social media dashboard however some features are exclusive to Pro and Enterprise customers.

June 15, 2011 VANCOUVER, CANADA – HootSuite, the first social media tool to offer scheduled updates to social networks, announces the next evolution of publishing tools. These new features will help enterprises, agencies and publishing houses plan and manage social media campaigns with increased efficiency. This release is the latest in a collection of social media security and collaborative workflow tools, and shows the company’s focus on making social media safe and strategic for businesses.

Additions to the dashboard include: a calendar view to organize scheduled messages; a profile picker to choose favorites and default accounts; and a security permissions option to require approval before publishing. These features work with all social networks integrated with HootSuite’s social media dashboard, including: Twitter, Facebook (profiles & pages), Linkedin, Foursquare, Ning and more.

Social Media Scheduling

A new editorial calendar view will assist in planning social update publishing across networks. Pro and Enterprise plans also offer breakdowns by day/week/month allowing teams to manage complicated campaigns from a single tool. Plus scheduled messages can be re-arranged to another timeslot within the drag-and-drop enabled calendar which also includes in-line editing.

Limited Permissions

Enterprise teams can now assign Limited Permissions to collaborators to allow them to share searches and draft messages, but not to publish. This secure account status is ideal for interns, junior employees or contractors, and gives organizations greater control to prevent embarrassing gaffes while still allowing for collaboration.

Messages from Limited Permissions team members are placed in an approval queue marked as “unapproved” until approved by an authorized team member. This process ensures that only appropriate and accurate updates are posted to valuable corporate or governments profiles.

Smarter Broadcasts

Many HootSuite customers manage dozens of social profiles and a new profile picker tool saves time by choosing desired accounts via an auto-completing text field. Users can quickly select one, several, or all social profiles to broadcast to the ideal audience, or create a bundle of frequently used “favorite” profiles to message with a single click.
