Hot Indian TV series on Amazon Prime

With minimum interference by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), directors have been able to express themselves better in the web series space. These Indian shows on Amazon Prime Video, as a result, have factors that make them NSFW (not that we encourage bingeing at work, anyway). But, with WFH being a common practice, we suggest you avoid watching these shows with your parents.

1. Skulls and Roses

Indulge in this not-so-great Indian show on Amazon Prime Video only if you are looking for cringe content. Heavily loaded with intimate scenes, fights, verbal abuses and the occasional violent spat, this one is best to be watched with a bunch of friends. To put it in better context, it is a no holds barred show.

2. Inside Edge

While this excellent show on Amazon Prime Video gives you an insider’s view of what goes on beyond the 22 yards of a cricket pitch, it sure explores a lot more. The steamy scenes pick up right from the first scene, hence there isn’t any hiding if you’ve played it in front of your parents already.

3. Rasbhari

Set in Meerut, Rasbhari narrates the life of Nand, a young boy (played by Ayushmaan Saxena), who is infatuated by a local English teacher, Shanoo (played by Swara Bhaskar). Shanoo has an alter-ego, who goes by the name of Rasbhari. She is obsessed with sex. Through the course of the show, the plot touches many interesting points in Nand’s life as well as Rasbhari’s interactions with those around her.

4. Tandav

Amazon Prime Video’s newest release, and yet another controversial show, Tandav is rated at 18+ by the platform itself. That should be your cue. It is a 9-part political drama series featuring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dino Morea and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub (wow, quite a stellar cast). The series glides through a beautifully crafted plot that we assume will demand absolute attention from the viewers to follow the minor plot twists. It also has many metaphors that speak for themselves.

5. Four More Shots Please

Four More Shots Please! single-handedly broke the internet with its bold and realistic portrayal of onscreen sex in 2019 as well as 2020. It is amongst the most-watched Indian shows on Amazon Prime Video. The plot chronicles the lives of four girls – Damini Rizvi Roy (played by Sayani Gupta), Umang Singh (played by Bani J), Anjana Menon (played by Kirti Kulhari) and Siddhi Patel (played by Maanvi Gagroo) – and their ability to sustain their friendship despite professional and personal hurdles that life throws at them.

6. Hostel Daze

Created by The Viral Fever (TVF), Hostel Daze was one of the popular Indian web series on Youtube. But now, it is another addition to the quality Indian shows on Amazon Prime Video. Rated 18+, it looks at the lives of three students, their struggles, puberty and overall experience of living in a hostel.

7. Made in Heaven

Made in Heaven, also rated 18+ by the platform, is one that you might take the risk with. And, if your parents have been consuming online content, they probably know about it. But, all of that aside, it is an outstanding show (personal favourite) and is coming out with a second season soon too. With two wedding planners (played by Shobita Dhalippal and Arjun Mathur) at the centre of the story, the show taps into their personal and professional lives and of those whose weddings they’re planning.

Skulls and Roses – Amazon Prime Video

The brain behind MTV’s biggest reality shows like Roadies and Splitsvilla, have now partnered with Amazon Prime for their new show. Think of this one like Roadies and Splitsvilla had a baby and Skulls and Roses was born. The two producers are also the hosts of the show, where 20 contestants come together in one place to battle one another in complicated tasks, have to indulge in dirty politics for their survival and also have a chance at finding love. The cringe-level of this show is so high up that it’s going to make you want to see one episode after the other. The phrase, “so bad that it's good” was created for this show.

If you loved Siddhant Chaturvedi as MC Sher in Gully Boy, you need to check this web series out. The cricket-based story revolves around the Mumbai Mavericks team that is competing for the Power Play League. However, when a new owner acquires the team, fame, greed and corruption take centre stage. It’s basically a look into the politics of cricket, where selfishness, sex, money and power are some of your biggest strengths. This show was Amazon Prime’s first Indian original.

This show will give you the ugly reality behind the fancy “big fat Indian wedding”. The story’s main focus is a wedding planning company owned by Karan and Tara. But it is so much more than that. The show tackles topics like homosexuality, dowry, extra-martial affairs, sex scandals and much more. Each episode comes with its own set of new problems, while our protagonists try to find their way around it. Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti have created this show, and there are a bunch of guests that appear every episode too. Check this out to see how to combine something that is laden with age old customs and traditions and give it a modern twist.
