This season one of the best runners in the country if not the best runners overall has been Katelyn Tuohy as she has led the Wolfpack all year.

Tuohy is looking to lead her team to the championship as the top individual runner in the country and cap off one of the best individual seasons in the history of college cross country and track and field.

The Cardinal look to win their first championship in nearly 20 years (2003) behind the performances of Charles Hicks, Cole Sprout and Ky Robinson which make up a great trio of runners.

Race Previews

North Carolina State aims to defend women’s team title

Defending NCAA champions North Carolina State has maintained the No. 1 ranking all season with low-scoring victories at the Nuttycombe Invitational, ACC Championships, and the Southeast Region Championships, among other big wins. The Wolfpack boasts a squad that includes Katelyn Tuohy, a favorite to win the individual title, as well as low sticks, including All-American Kelsey Chmiel, Samantha Bush, Sydney Seymour, and Nevada Mareno. If NC State wins again, the team will be the first back-to-back women’s champions since 2010, according to NCAA.com.

The biggest threat to the Wolfpack’s title chase will be New Mexico and Oklahoma State. In October, the No. 2-ranked Lobos lost to the Wolfpack in a thrilling tiebreaker at the Nuttycombe Invitational, where each team scored 80 points in an ultra-competitive field. The Lobos are also coming off Mountain West Conference and Mountain Region victories. No. 3 Oklahoma State will be gunning to win the NCAA title on the program’s home course, especially after top runners Natalie Cook and Taylor Roe finished 1-2 at the Cowboy Jamboree earlier this season.

Stanford targets first NCAA title since 2003

After starting the season ranked No. 3, Stanford has emerged as a favorite to win the NCAA crown this weekend. The Cardinal climbed its way to the top with decisive wins at the Nuttycombe Invitational, Pac-12 Conference Championships, and the West Region Championships. The Nuttycombe victory was particularly impressive because Stanford outpaced powerhouse programs BYU and Northern Arizona. The Cardinal also boasts NCAA individual title contenders with Ky Robinson and Charles Hicks leading the charge.

Despite being ranked No. 2 heading into the meet, Northern Arizona should never be counted out in the title conversation. The Lumberjacks have won five out of the last six championships and have No. 1-ranked individual Nico Young.

Led by No. 4 Casey Clinger, No. 3 BYU heads into the meet with a runner-up finish to NAU at the Mountain Region Championships, where the Cougars put four runners in the top 15.
